Amanda Peet on Letterman (2002) Posted by: livedangerously
Video duration: 649 seconds This is a cute interview with Amanda Peet, while she was out doing the rounds for Igby Goes Down. Dave is very nice to her, and it's clear that this means a great deal to her. This is a good example of Dave's style of interviewing attractive actresses. "I don't come to your house and slap the dick out of your mouth!" That's it!

So what exactly drew you to this video? Searching for "David Sedaris" or finding a video essay about "Stadium Pal"? The stupidity to which you refer applies less to the video than it does to the person, whom in certain circles, would be described as "he who came here to waste 5 minutes and 20 seconds watching a performance he knew he would hate and then leave a negative comment."

Interesting how those who don't like him apparently like to watch his videos. I've read all of his books and "awesome" doesn't begin to explain his talent. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I don't come to your house and slap the dick out of your mouth! He's a brilliant writer - no one does satire like him. Sad too how many people feel the need to belittle those who like sedaris? We all like what we like, que sera.

This video... was not funny. It was stupid on so many levels, and Sedaris is terribly overrated.
By: bradypowell86. on 16 Nov 08, 08:48:18
Fuck you dude. How about you actually grow a set and find something better to talk about.

I wish he was jewish, then Ira Glass could talk to him about judaism until he was blue in the face. Get over yourself Ira.
By: MikeMelnick1. on 14 Nov 08, 00:59:11
Yes - he's at least ethnically Greek, and he refers to this fact in his work.
By: uSCABa. on 13 Nov 08, 05:11:23
He's clever and funny as shit. That's what Ira says at least. He's with me now sipping chambourd with a splash of proseco in my San Fran. "flat", (it's more of a European city).
By: jcc152509. on 12 Nov 08, 21:29:39
Are you certain of that?
By: MikeMelnick1. on 12 Nov 08, 19:28:20
he's Greek
By: jcc152509. on 07 Nov 08, 21:16:38
Thanks for the insight.

True Sedaris is such an erudite, insightful and clever writer. Then again, isn't that a prerequisite for being an integral part of NPR. Let me guess, he's jewish and he and Ira Glass sit around the fireplace and ceaselessly discuss what it is like to be the chosen ones? So fucking pretentious.

I enjoyed this a lot. I've listened to his books on tape driving to and from work for years - not an especially safe practice when I'm laughing so hard that tears stream down my face. If you haven't read "Jesus Shaves" from Me Talk Pretty One Day you'll see what I mean when you do read it. If Thurber had been gay and living in the last half of the 20th century, he'd have been David Sedaris.

Hmm, so that's what he sounds like...I thought his voice would be affected by his years of smoking, but surprisingly isn't. It'll be easier to hear his voice when I read his books, not just some generic narrator my mind conjures up. He has good stage presence, though. I hate it when my favorite authors bore me to death in their public appearances.

Sedaris is so good. Listen to the "This American Life" podcast for some of his appearances.

He is funny and adorable!

Are you a english teacher or something?
By: rongravy. on 31 Oct 08, 07:00:59
this was actually funny. i almost ditched it, but gave it a chance. not bad.
By: Janebond89. on 29 Oct 08, 23:58:50
While I completely agree, I don't think you're exactly qualified to make pedantic pleas for tact and respect... having just asserted that homosexual writers are incapable.
By: Janebond89. on 29 Oct 08, 23:57:31
Haha, wow, your cleverness stuns me. For all your (unsubstantiated) claims of being old (maybe) and mature (most definitely not), you have the retorts of a five-year old. Congratulations.
By: lvance2. on 29 Oct 08, 04:06:26
yeah, man. He smoked for like, 30 years but it somehow did not affect his voice at all.
By: TheStubbornDebater. on 29 Oct 08, 04:04:13
I tended to imagine as something a little more husky and possibly whiskey ridden huh?
By: lvance2. on 28 Oct 08, 03:29:29
whoa, that is so not the voice I expected him to have
By: SLCPunker101. on 27 Oct 08, 21:14:33
I was telling my mom about this, and when I found it in the new book I read it aloud to her, and she couldn't stop laughing.
