As a musician, the problem is with major chords in rock, and major scales elsewhere. Although The White Stripes still mine some major chord/scale magic, and Usher, Fantasia and a few others are great in funk/R&B/Soul/Rap..whatever they callin it. People have to change before the music/art can change. Why there are few great singers compared to what there were in the 60's is another question.

I heard from someone that was married to oneof his 60's band members that JB had a mild heart attack in 1965. Maybe that is it, although, I have always wondered about that too. It is a little wierd, becaues, he didn't slow down during that period in any other of his dance moves.

Pandemonium! That's what I remember feeling when witnessing James Brown like this many years ago. I eventually realized that Mr. Brown created this feeling in the audience on purpose. I was so excited after witnessing "The James Brown Revue" back in the day that I couldn't sleep that night. Tickets only costs 99 cents for children like me who were under 12 years old! Mr. Brown probably knew he was creating fans for life! I'm so glad that clips like this are available on YOUTUBE nowadays.

Ok Paul, good point. i didn't get that from your post. That is a curious aspect of it all.I'm going to run it by some other JB fiends and see what they speculate. I don'tbelieve it was a health issue as we heard nothing about it back then. The last split I saw him do was immediately following a costume change at Radio City Music Hall where he was headlining in support of "Living In America"

To 'JamalSlomack' - What are you referring to, the splits? I don't care that he didn't do splits from 1966 to 1971 as far as enjoying watching him. I am CURIOUS as to WHY he stopped and then started again in 1972 until 1987. To me that is a fascinating aspect, what went through the mind of this genius.

hey, any news on JB 1966/67 Olympia shows becoming available on DVD yet? These 66/67 Olympia performances were simply dynamite! For nearly 20 years I could only listen to my audio of these concerts and imagine what he was doing! A rare treat for a collector of 30 plus years. Any TRUE die-hard James Brown fans/collectors out there? Lemme hear ya! Alright now!

The thing that killed me laughing was when James performed in Africa the first time and if you see the film, the Blacks looked at him like he was from Mars. He had more soul than all of Africa.

A little correction is in order there guy. James did LOADS of splits in his shows during those years. Just not in EVERY show. I know, because I was at every single concert James did in my area, starting with my first JB concert in 1967 at the Kiel Auditorium (St.Louis)

Man, this guy was BADDDDDD! If you watch him dance, and watch Michael Jackson dance, it's the same thing; the poises, the spins, and the moonwalk, of course James called it the "camel" walk.
