Damn, that's a quiet idle receive! I used to love QSOing, DXing and Hide & Seek back in High School, but there's nobody with brains left on the air around here.

You should not be using ham radio gear for CB use it is illegal. You must use FCC type excepted radios for CB Use.

I have in Estonia 5/8 vertical (nice and strong aluminium antenna 21,7 ft high) about 40ft from ground and talk to bases at 4W FM ca 30 miles and at 40W FM over 30 miles. To cars (most cars have ML145 antenna, itīs the best one) i talk at 4W FM ca 10 miles and at 40W FM up to 30-40 miles. I use rig Yaesu FT840 and we dont use AM, because this piks up a lot bullshit from aurond and thereīs big QRM

Yeah ssb is great in the mobile with a lil wilson and a radio shack 465 I can talk to bases 30 miles out with the stock output, my swr was 1:11

Nice test. I've done about 40 miles on CB, ground wave. That was between two bases, on SSB. 11 meter CAN do 60-70 miles quite easily, with right antennas. Maybe talk to you some day, I'm on 27555 in 21 div.

The base had a true 5/8 wave fiberglass vertical... only 10 feet in the air @ the feed point.... Car had a K30 magnet mount on the roof.... For those who are unimpressed.... Our location is hilly, and you can see that with the difference between Easterly transmissions and Northerly ones.... Very hilly and the base antenna wasn't even up high.... The 706 was running about 75 watts and the Galaxy was about 10 watts

Just shows what can be done with two good radios but not all CBers have Icom 706s!! I wonder what power and antennas you where running?

Was the distance measured by using roads or aerial distance? Because 15 miles on a road can abe only 8 miles by air.

stick a 32 pill on that 959 annd a 27 inch predator 10k youll talk 50 miles no problem and rule in dx

Yes I understand I would have been able to hear him better on SSB rather than Amplitude Modulation. But when you think about that little galaxy vs. a ham rig, galaxy = about 10 watts pep, ham radio = 50 watts. The mobile radio was using a 'okay' antenna, a K30. The feed point on the base antenna was only 14 feet above the ground, it was a 5/8 wave vertical. I'd say with better antenna's and increase height on the base it would bump 3 or 4 s-units. I know the diff between HF and VHF simplex!

At 15 miles you could have gone to USB and heard him better. I laugh at local distance on ten or eleven meters - six (50-54 Mhz) or two (144-148) meters blows it away. IE 4 watts on two meters easy 25-30 miles intelligible on FM. SSB easily 60+ miles.
