Carlos was into meditation and seriously into John Coltrane-who was straight as an arrow (I know he was tripping during this).People have a distorted view of the sixties. The Bear died??? AW! I sat on his lap in 1969during a concert at Blackham Colliseum in Lafayette, Louisiana. The band was on break. My friends and I stalked them to an open air terrace. They were totally nice! We smoked, drank, and when I sat on his lap, he didn't throw me off, and didn't hit, either, since I was just 18. Those were the days.

Today hippies arent favored in society but I actually think they're pretty cool and definitely miunderstood/stereotyped. I'm 22 and the 60's and 70's seemed like an awesome time to be alive. My mom said it was the best times of her life. Wish I was alive then and the age I am now.

I could't agree more with the two of you... honestly, I believe I was alive in another life in the 60's and early 70's, where I honestly believe I died young.... but anyway, I feel robbed of that existence - I don't belong here, this life sucks. Send me back to the 60's and 70's!!! My father put me on to Richie Havens a couple of years ago and his rendition of Here Comes the Sun is impressive to say the least. I saw Richie Havens open up for Harry Chapin in the park in Brooklyn ('81 I think). It was a free concert and I had the best seat in the house. I could hear the sound of his guitar directly...before is came out of the amps. Oh, by the way: Harry Chapin was pretty good too. Those were better days to be sure. Now we are in a culture of death. Freedom has been abused. Anyway, this is his first performace of Freedom. He winged it and improvised the song to fill the time slot. Genius eh?
