Firstly, women are attracted to good looks,money, not laughs! Only SUCCESSFUL comedians get laid. Secondly, many male comedians as well as female are Jews. Further, we all know there are things women can't do as well as men. Unless they are ugly, then they are forced to compete making them better. Same goes for guys. Don't put words in Hitchens mouth. We both know that he did not say that "society can not accept the angry woman" or "it is wrong to force women to diguise thier anger." If he did think or say those things, I would think that he had gone mad.

Where do you see misogyny? Hitchens is saying that women are often forced to channel their outrage at oppression into socially accepted channels such humor or sexuality. As a feminist I find it very liberating for this to be recognized. Society doesn't accept the angry woman, but if she disguises her fury as a joke or allows herself to become a sex object, then it's accepted. Hitchens is saying this is wrong, and he's right about that. He's a far cry from a misogynist and a clever man indeed.

I adore Christopher Hitchens, I really do. As a woman, I think what he is trying to get across here is entirely accurate and in dire need of being said. He's not being offencive, he's saying it's unnecessary for us to desperately try to please men and/or strive to emulate them in order to get power. And he's right in pointing out that female comedy comes from anger. I wish women's anger at disparity was accepted outright, rather than needing to be disguised as humour or or cheapened by "cute".
