Religion tears people apart from eachother, and typically pins people against one another because in this world we have fucked up people, and when fucked up people happen to have been raised a certain religion they use it justify their fucked up deeds. Bull shit my friend I disagree, the bible in its own right is a collection of rules on how to live your life. Science is formulated and exciting, it offers us reasoning now and more importantly, ever changing reasoning. The bible, cannot change, its interpretations can, but the book itself offers little science. As the human race grows and explores, so does science and our explanation. Fingers crossed we find a stargate or something and get to the exciting other cultures a little quicker ;)

They base it on the speed they think the universe is expanding and were they think it started. It's a good guess if you they are right about most of the other ideas they have. It's all very interesting but details like this are found to be off 99.9% of the time. Most science should be taken with a grain of salt,they are still working it all out.

Interesting. Planet Earth is just stellar debris that was shot out when our generic star could fuse hydrogen, thus entering main sequence. VV Cephei may be one helluva star, but it is not the biggest celestial body out there. It's got nothing on the cosmic web! One light year is a lot relative to anthropic proportions, and we use it so much with mapping the "heavens".
