He has even smashed his Favourite acoustic guitars... check out the one top of the pops 5:50 vid, that is his like..'59 or something Gretsch, the one he used to record all of Who's Next that he just smashes... he has smashed Really expensive ones... there is a site that lists all of the ones he has smashed. as well, this was the 'last' one that he ever smashed, so.. y not smash a really good guitar if its your final one ever...?

its not possible for it it to break in two swings three if it were three u would have believed it but two no. Trust me Pete Townsend knows how to smash a guitar and i bet if u hit it in the right spot u can break a guitar in to swings and also watch the video he is smashing up against the monitor it is angles so it is helping break he is not smashing it up against the flat stage it is an angled monitor.

THe fuckin guitar flew apart,in pieces,in two hits,and I dont know about you,but last time I checked,Fenders werent made that cheap,if it was a real Fender,he'd have to hit it at least 3 times before the neck would even crack,plus the drums and keyboard simultanious with the smashing,seems more of a finale than a true guitar smashing.

And truth is as a fan it was devastating when he was arrested.also he had already written about his book on his website ,what it would contain, story about Emily ,other abuse survivors,his own childhood abuse.I bought also the solo CD's where all proceeds went to abused teenagers(Maryville acadamy)after seeing him ,again, on Letterman with Eddie Veder back in the 90's when I was in the States.He was then profiled in the classic tabloid manner,even David Putnam....

All of his lyrics are just so visceral and the music he writes to accompany them is always exquisitely beautiful, even the really hard rocking ones. His sense of melody and rhythm is truly unerring. This is an excellent reading of one of Townshend's most heartfelt songs. Townshend's power-riffing on the guitar breaks and Vedder's truly sensitive and understated vocals make this particularly memorable. Also commendable is Paul Schafer's evocation of John "Rabbit" Bundrick's classic work on the Fender Rhodes. Simply gorgeous.

I love Pete and his music. Empty Glass is an album that can stand up with The Who. What is sad is that like many other musicians (Clapton and the Stones come to mind immediately) he was at his musical best when he was at his personal worst. There is a lot of sexual imagery in this video from beginning to end, but who cares? It is an all time classic song that I will always love and that will live forever. God bless you Pete. agreed - like any good lyrics, these are vague enough to be whatever you interpret. Those who have made them entirely "homoerotic" probably have subconscious, irrational fears on the issue. On the other end of the spectrum, some may interpret them as simply boys drunk (yet innocent enough) night out. Others may just interpret as a commentary on reality. In any instance, the song is cool, the album is brilliant and further solidifies Pete's status as THE omnipotent badass rocker on earth.

I liked this song as a youngster. Until I saw the video. I was, and am befuddled by it. The lyrics are pretty explicit. It's clearly a homoerotic song folks.
