I see no facts in your statements, just excuses. Are you saying the Republicans were liberal in the 60's as well, Martin Luther King Jr was a Republican. Clearly you don't understand how the parties were organized in the 1860s and 1960s. The Republicans of Lincoln were far more liberal than the Democrats at the time; Lincoln would be a Democrat these days. And during the Civil Rights movement, a large amount of Democrats in Congress were from the South and voted against the bill out of intolerance. These "Dixiecrats" were not representative of the party. But hey, repeat what you've heard without knowing the facts.
