Tony Perkins out to just put a big fat swastika on his should because that is all I see when I see him. He is proof that fascism is alive and well. He and his followers won't rest until LGBT Americans are exterminated in concentration camps and until America becomes the Christian Race Federation.

Dan Savage is so eloquent.
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 02 Dec 08, 13:17:01
sonisisuper, that's true. I suppose you could characterize this whole row as being over sybolism and meaning. "Squishy" stuff, really.
By: sonisisuper. on 02 Dec 08, 02:17:07
What I meant by that trifle statement is that socially, gays are like blacks/ muslims/any minority you want to use there's always that stigma, much reduced today but still there. Of course black remains black and may well continue to be black for quite some time, despite recent elections of the POTUS.
By: sonisisuper. on 02 Dec 08, 02:14:07
Evidently the descendents are less convinced -on that we agree! But it seems you misunderstand me. I don't mean that gays have it as bad as blacks did in slavery era, or even in pre-civil rights era. That would be absurd. Their main quibble these days seems to be about the idea of marriage, which seems to me to be largely symbolic on both sides of the issue, and less about actual rights.
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 02 Dec 08, 01:57:09
As far as most blacks are concerned, black is certainly *not* the new gay. Comparisons between homosexuals and slavery is seems to be convincing to white liberal urban 20-somethings. Actual ancestors of slaves, on the other hand, appear less convinced.
By: sonisisuper. on 02 Dec 08, 01:38:32
Funny, I'm black and as far as I'm concerned, gay is the new black. This whole gay marriage business is pretty much the same thing to a lesser degree. I don't think anyone is arguing that gays are put in different schools or aren't allowed to vote, but the Brown v Borad allusion was made because that was a case that was "legislated from the bench" and stuck. It seems that as payback you manage to compare the gay marriage agenda to Appartheid. Funny, that.

It is interesting to see the same people who voted YES on prop 8 and stand behind democracy, also bash the Judicial Branch of the American Government, which is to represent 1/3rd of the power of our government as defined by the constitution. Talk about not eating the crust on the bread

"You strip me of my rights and I interrupt you. Who's really suffering here?" PWN'd.
By: shibman1103. on 30 Nov 08, 05:18:47
It may be a bit of a stretch to compare this to the civil right movement. I will give you that. But pushing yourself into somebody's life and telling them "you can't get married because you are gay and thus not fit" seems a tad more immature and ignorant than anything I've heard of Savage doing and saying.
By: Roaddogg666. on 29 Nov 08, 23:19:19
Tony Perkins fails I give gay marriage 5 years until it is legal
By: cerebus2099. on 29 Nov 08, 01:49:20
To compare the fight for gay marriage to the civil rights movement or the plight of other groups is ignorant. I really laugh at how Dan tries to portray himself as a victim when nothing in his life will change as the result of this thing passing. His house, and families members will still reside there and still be able to consider themselves a family. Dan is just an immature person with little knowledge.
By: cerebus2099. on 29 Nov 08, 01:47:09
Actually, my point was that the gay community does so little to highlight these issues. They'd rather put on a show over made up issues like this one.
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 28 Nov 08, 03:17:00
I don't think we have segregated schools for gays. I suppose you are trying to frame the same-sex marriage cause into a larger social context in order boost its emotional appeal. But the comparison is completely false. In your mind, what is the purpose for marriage? What justification society have to single out this one specific form of adult relationship for specific treatment? Why do you think every human culture has developed the institution of marriage?
By: snipzor. on 28 Nov 08, 02:59:23
The idea of brown vs dept of edu. is one famous quote by the lawyer on the side of the desegregationists. I don't have the exact quote, but he had said that the idea that blacks must go to separate places than whites makes them in essence unequal in a country that promotes equality for all. Remember that. Just because you give us institutions that are almost equal to marriage, doesn't mean we are made equal. That was the purpose (And no, it is not close to being considered a "law" yet).
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 28 Nov 08, 02:36:53
snipzor, this whole thing is an issue because a minority forced its view of morality on the majority. That is called the "tyranny of the minority". Sort of like apartheid-era South Africa. Not sure what Brown has to do with the current situation. Unless you think being black is the same thing as being homosexual. And same sex marriage is the same thing as education. And as for people deciding what I can and can't do, lol, they do that already! It's called "law". :)
By: snipzor. on 28 Nov 08, 02:27:34
Every election has a losing side, but no majority should ever decide the rights of the minority alone. Remember that, the majority may vote on something like prop 8, but the courts protect the minority. So think again when you believe that you aren't being tyrannical to people, because one day people will decide what you can and can't do. Remember Brown vs. board of education.
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 28 Nov 08, 02:08:09
Every election has a losing side. It does not immediately follow that the losing side of every election has therefore suffered from "tyranny". This is particularly true in the case for prop 8, which merely upheld the social order under which every culture has operated in all of recorded history. Gay marriage is not a "fundamental" right. Gays are not victims of tyranny. But, apparently, they *are* sore losers. I mean, blacklists? C'mon. When has history smiled on those?
By: snipzor. on 27 Nov 08, 05:15:16
Well I was going to fall asleep until I saw this (ANY RESPONSE WILL BE DIRECTED THROUGH PERSONAL MESSAGE, NOT COMMENTS). Now, remember, one of the main points of the constitution is to protect those small vocal minorities from "The tyranny of the majority" (John Stuart Mill). So when the majority forms against the minority and decides if they are first class citizens or second class, the courts step in. Second, exaggerated claims of gays vandalizing churches, the reports are rare.
By: TheMeanGuy2. on 27 Nov 08, 05:10:49
snipzor, a small and vocal minority is trying to force a redefinition of marriage on the majority. In itself, that does not constitute a "civil rights movement". In the 60s, blacks did not target voters for intimidation and harassement, create blacklists, and vandalize churches. Comparisons between the current gay rights movement and the civil rights movements in the 1960s are superficial and largely false.
By: snipzor. on 27 Nov 08, 05:05:10
Hahahahahaha!!!! You think your government would go out of their way to help people?! Laughable, America always stayed neutral in times of actual importance. Again, first it needs to be local, then it needs to be national, then it needs to be international. You don't go to the top at first, you build then you go to the top of the media coverage and support.
By: cerebus2099. on 27 Nov 08, 05:01:15
This, also, makes no sense. If they were to channel the energy they use flipping out over this so called marriage thing they could easily raise awareness on these issues, and maybe this govt would step in by letting them seek asylum here instead of shipping them straight back.
By: cerebus2099. on 27 Nov 08, 04:57:25
You should learn how to not make vague statements, and i wasnt referring to sex. THought that would be obvious. I really dont see any civil rights issue here, and am amazed at how shrill gay marriage proponents will stoop to appear victimized. While true human rights issues involving gays go ignored. I wont bother to assume why the average gay person only cares about this pretend issue, but "activists" like dan should know better. But i guess it's more important to look like a twit on TV
By: snipzor. on 27 Nov 08, 04:47:06
You should learn how to decipher proper wording. I use the word "Natural" for a reason, as if there is no choice in what happens. Gays are naturally made like so, the "sexual deviants" are made like so due to psychological trauma at a young age (*See American Psychological Association and American Psychoanalytical Association). I also used the word belief very sarcastically and ironically. It should have been obvious. Sadly Nietzsche-esque speech will be saved for another person.
