Yeah, but you should really be familiar with all five positions JUST in Am first and how they connect to each other before you try following the chord progression with relative scales. Reason-being, once you know Am, you know them all and you can transpose by simply shifting everything.

If by eye protection you mean the pair of Ray Bans she is wearing then I'm afraid this is not appropriate eye protection for carrying out work with an oxy torch. Disposable lighters should never be used when lighting a torch and put together with the fact she is wearing no suitable PPE she is quite the novice where health and safety is concerened.

As a jewelery teacher I'm disturbed by the total lack of safety awareness exhibited by the person here. NEVER use disposable lighters for lighting torches - they can explode quite easily. She doesn't use any darkened eye protection which is vital with an oxy torch at that level And she's got a bloody tank top on - no protection from flying molten metal which can occur even with the shield I was hoping to use this with my students - and I will - as an example of BAD health and safety!!!

It is called a signal generator. Yes they are expensive but you could download one (google 'download signal generator'), but you would probably need some way to amplify the signal if you try doing it that way. Google 'chladni plates violin' for an alternative method. Good luck with the project.

Here's how I'm teaching myself the major chords: This might confuse some people but maybe not. There's a phrase to help remember line notes of the bass clef. Great Big Dogs Fight Animals (G, B, D, F, A). So, I use this phrase to help remember some major chords. For G Major, you think Great Big Dogs. So the G Major chord contains the notes G, B, D. Check out Justins SC-020 and SC-021 or any other "major scale" lesson. There the major scale is explained, which is in fact the attempt to play only notes that are in a certain key (e.g. C major key: C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C). You have to master the scale first before you can start to improvise. I know, learning it can be dry and frustrating, but it will pay out. Keep it up!!

Start with the tonic note. That's the first note of the scale. 'C' if you're playing a C scale - 'D' if you're playing a D scale, and so on. You should also end on the tonic note.

you need to bend ur wrist much more - as much as you can - pretty tiring at first - like all new exercises using bew muscles for the first time - but when ur wrist strengthens up u wont notice the tiredness anymore. With yuour wrist bent you will be able to get ur fingers much more vertical, not so flat. Stick with it - it feels impossible at first - same for everyone. In a year you will wonder what the problem was.

My fingers are too short, I cannot reach around the neck of the guitar. The string goes under my fingernails...I dont get how to press down on the string, as I have to reach so far. I cant make a 90 degree onto the string.

actually, there are two or three fingerings for G.. and two of them are 320033 and 320003, there's a minor difference in sound but both are G major.

How do you teach yourself to hear strumming patterns? I want to play "Suspended from Class" by Camera Obscura, which should be super easy as it is just A, D, and E, but I can't hear the strumming pattern so even when I get the chords right, it doesn't sound real... Help please :)

There are pros and cons for both... with an acoustic, your guitar is a lot more portable (since you don't require electricity); and with an electric there are a lot of cool sounds you can make that you can't make with an acoustic. BUT you can basically play most if not all song on either... so really it's what works best for you.

I started with electric... but i agree with the previous post..it will make ya an even better electric player, if u start with an acoustic. you'll be amazed at how much "finger strength" you gain by playing an acoustic. You really gotta press the strings in order to hear a nice uniform sound...

don't you have a tuner for your guitar ? it makes it very easy to tune your guitar (i have the CA-30 from KORG and costs less than 20 euro and it is worth every euro). one important thing about placing your fingers on the strings is that you have to place your fingers as near as possible to the edge of the fret which is nearer the body of your guitar. you also have to use your 'fingerbone' to press down the strings.
