This stuff came out when I was in high school. Back then I was into the classical rock, Hendrix, Led Zep, Beatles, etc. Now looking back at this music it's interesting to hear the great counterpoint, it's like 20 century classical music with synths, guitars and drums. These guys were great.

You're right was a Hammond M100 series, but let me point that the distinctive sound of ProcolHarum was the Leslie sound and it's known that Hammond owner didn't like rotary sound, BTW an invention of Don Leslie. So guess it should be a Leslie 122, 145 or 147 models featuring 'chorale' (slow) speed. Former speaker models didn't have low speed bass rotor nor rotary horns (e.g. Jensen V21 driver)

While I Do agree with you on the significance of this song in bringing the Hammond into "The Light" of the populus, If I remember correctly, it was originally done on an M-103 with the built in speakers, Reverb 2 and the built in Chorus/Vibrato... It does sound better with a B-3 going through a 122 though :)

I think the song is about a trophy wife having a 1 night stand with a musician. "as the miller told his tale a face at first just ghostly turned a whiter shade of pale" The miller is a reference to the miller's tale in The Canterbury tales a story of a trophy wife having an affair. There is a line in the original that says she is on shore leave and a vestal virgin. Vestal Virgins were keepers of the sacred hearth (housewife), shore leave is what sailors get so they can go into town for a night.

I figure that just about everyone in the known universe has a song that they identify with in that way...I've got one(or two) myself. It's hardly the way to recognise a great song though and this is a great song...simple,vulnerable and quite wicked in its implication. BTW Alejandro Escovedo does a contemporary cover of this that is better than Reeds more recent versions.

Ricordo che è la lobby dei petrolieri che spesso in passato ha finanziato i movimenti ambientalisti per dar contro al nucleare. Non penso che sia solo per far tacere la coscienza. Gli esempi sarebbero molti, uno su tutti, non molti anni fa, i verdi presentavano a candidato sindaco di Milano la moglie di Massimo Moratti (petroliere). Non voglio però gettare in polemica un dialogo che faticosamente sta trovando una pacata mediazione tra due posizioni poi non tanto differenti.

Stai confermando esattamente quello che penso anche io. Solo in casi eccezionali, posti particolari, momenti particolari, la fonte eolica può essere la soluzione definitiva. Nei posti non giusti, si è già visto , che è più dannosa che altro. Va bene sfruttare l'energia eolica dove è possibile (Ricordi i mulini a vento di Don Chisciotte - Cervantes - Spagna). Non è la soluzione "per tutte le stagioni". No all'oltranzismo miope; valutazioni non aprioristische delle varie soluzioni, nei vari casi.

eolico e solare sono le 2 fonti a minor impatto ambientale. vorrei ricordare che la spagna il 18 aprile l'eolico è stata la prima fonte nergetica del paese grazie agli eccezzionali venti. la città di Siviglia nel 2010 sarà auonoma energeticamente grazie al solare. Esistono già realtà che vivono così. In Germania una cittadina vivono in quasi totlae autosufficienza energetica "condividendo" gli eccessi prodotti. Es: cogeneratore a metano o pellets riesce a convertire il 98% dell'enegia possibile contro il 25% reale del sistema a centrale. in realtà però adoperano principalmente solare ed eolico adoperando il "combustiblie" se indispensabile.

Sul 2) però, per evitare l'eccesso inverso, va comunque considerata una politica pubblica centrale, perchè per quanto sia una via da percorrere, l'autoproduzione e l'indipendenza energetica delle famiglie, non può essere la soluzione generale. Da tecnico aggiungo che se qualcuno è in grando di possedere un suolo con 7500 ore di vento all'anno, l'enerigia da aerogenerazione è competitiva anche con la termonucleare avanzata, e date retta a me, questi impianti fanno molto meno rumore del vento nel bosco, che siamo in molti a chiamarla musica.... grazie

I was at the concert as well and I can tell you that Jock (the drummer) and Andy Diagram were there so it was a virtualy full Paleys line up. shack drummer played a bit of percussion, but jock was the drummer. Mick Head said it was a paleys gig so who are you to argue?
