These talent show audiences are total morons. They will never listen to opera or even come near an opera house but when they heard the word 'opera' they were astonished. Such hypocrits... Sorry to say this, but the guy can't sing opera. His voice isn't strong enough and he was several times out of tune. But it seems that The Hoff's opinions (they should put him a wet suit on to show the abs, what a douche) and S.Osbourne's are what matters in American song contests then there is no hope.

wow he is awful, he sounds like an 18 year old singing, I can't stand it. He is out of tune and the quality of his voice is not classical. I have heard many 20 year olds sing this better than he did, poor performance.

First time I saw Neal, I said 'he's gonna win'. Even before seeing any other acts, you just saw Neal as a winner. I also favored Eli Mattson to win, as well as Queen Emily, but Neal always came across as THE winning talent for this years competition. His voice is phenomenal. I almost appreciate his voice as much as Karen Carpenters. ALMOST. Anyways, congrats Neal!

You don't need to be a cook to criticize a bad meal served to you in a restaurant, and you don't need to be an opera singer to find that a particular performer lacks the talent that would make him outstanding or even just good. All you need is a certain amount of experience with the topic, which also includes having something in comparison. Neal E. Boyd has a nice voice, but he will never be a critically acclaimed operatic performer like e.g. Pavarotti, Björling, Wunderlich or Vickers.

I am so glad that America has so much talent that you all can sing better or do anything as well as he just did that song. No one on that panel of judges has one tenth of the talent as that man. In times of America's or Britain's got Talent it seems to become popular to vote below mediocre performers to the top if they only do classical music. Part of the reason is that the stories behind the so-called 'tenors' are emotional and cause people to simply like them. Even more important though is that very few in the audience and apparently none of the judges have much experience with classical music. Thus any such act appears to be impressive, while in fact it is of lowest quality.

Always cool to see great performers like Neil get together with other greats like The Band, but for my money this version of the song isn't nearly as moving as the studio version on Deja Vu. It's a very personal song about his years growing up in Canada, so it works much better to have him go solo (and softer than he sings here) on the vocals, with lighter backing vocals.

Thanks, Rawramp. It's true -- ultimately it's all in the ear. I have friends here in Canada, serious guitarists, who dismiss Young, because he can't match their idols of technical wizardry, like Vai. I don't get that at all. One of my favorite rock guitar bits of all time are the flourishes with which Young ends Cinnamon Girl. The sense of the mythic he lends to that song about that girl, with those flourishes, blows me away. It's just perfect, I think. Take care.

Rawramp, whenever I hear "Hendrix was all noise," I refer the speaker to "Hey Baby," where, for some, his genius might be more easily heard, in the lightness of his touch, than in his louder, harder style (which I admit can be offputting -- though Neil isn't exactly a pussyfoot when it comes to loud guitar). If, after listening to this, you still think Hendris couldn't play guitar, I can't help you.

Ok to clear it up for anyone who dosn't know, Niel zaza wrote this song! And the covers you hear from Jerry C and funtwo are the Studio versions cover. Go search I'm alright studio version. His live version is a bit diffrent and hes playing faster because well, most people play a lot faster live because of nervousness.
