I agree with king. After all, any brute can be violent. He isn't saying just let the white folks just step on you. I believe what he's trying to say is if we're going to make any lick of difference, it is with subtlety, and cunning. It's a reference to Moses, who was taken up to the mountain top to VIEW the Promised Land (Canaan). Moses wasn't allowed to ENTER because of his disobedience, but God allowed him to VIEW the land before he died. So MLK's metaphor was about the promised land of Equality & Justice. Moses went to the mountaintop and God showed him the promised land. However, he never got there himself. Dr. King is saying here that God has shown him that the future will be better than what he wa living in. Equal rights would come, and it did not matter if he lived to see them, because God had already shown him the "promised land." Hope that helps.

I have always enjoyed Dr.Kings non violent ways. Some of our government programs have been very devisive though history and have caused many hostilities such as affirmative action and should be discarded. Well, I think the argument can be made that the US is actually the lack of culture (or more precisely a culture of isolation, having pocket communities, but not much unity/interaction other than a lot of us own televisions.). I think in general there is a lack of the concept of personal responsibility in the US - everyone wants it done for them. With that mindset we will always be presented with the ideas of extremists (doesn't really work for us at large). More people TRYING is a start.

Very good point. Wat can be done though? Just throwing money at a situation doesn't help. Also consider they brought along many different cultures of their own. Part of being American is that we've made our own culture with a blend of thousands of other cultures. I just feel like it's a personal thing. Lazy whites feel they don't need to do anything because they're white and lazy blacks feel they're owed when in fact, they're all equally capable of doing something productive for themselves.
