That's a cop-out. Bob is as much about singing as he is about songwriting. He may not have a conventionally beautiful voice, but he compensates for it with the passion and inventiveness of his delivery. It may be an acquired taste, but once one has it, most other vocalists pale in comparison. I don't care who you get to sing "Chimes of Freedom" or "The Times They Are A-Changin'" or even "Mississippi"--the song might sound more pleasant, but it will lose infinitely more than it will gain.

The sad thing is that this music was banned in the USA in the 50's and 60's. No way was this played on White Radio. It took the Brits to rediscover it and send it back to us via EC, Page, Gallager, Mayall, Stones, etc. If you remember we were listening to Pat Boone covers for God sake! Racist America starved these artist for years until they were rediscovered in the late 60's. EC played the music he loved and never said or implied he was as good or better then the original.

The problem with white blues players has almost nothing to do with their skin color, and for that matter, modern black musicians are just as susceptible to inauthenticity as modern whites. I still own my 1963 Newport Blues Fest record album (owned since 1971, was/is my dearest favo) and Mississippi John performed this tune at that Festival in 1963. It's too bad it cut off early, great tune, what a song by this wonderful man. Whole album is wonderful. So I guess if you like the old "Delta Blues" like I do, look maybe for Brownie & Sonny, John Lee Hooker, John Hammond, Dave Van Ronk amongst others for some good blues also~ anyway, I'm guessing this video prob dates to 1963
