I don't understand all this fuss about Mirriam Makeba, the woman cannot sing. South Africa has produced better musicians who are sadly underrated, OK Mirriam is in the music industry but is definitely not the best of what SA has produced. She is overrated, politics/life in exile, not music made her.

Isn't she wonderful? Isn't she beautiful? She's still called the Voice of Africa. Miriam Makeba! A smooth black female wimoweh (means lion) im Pardelpelz! And: what a voice and what a Stimmbildung!! So natürlich, musikalisch and so stimmig. And so black and so sexy! She was (and maybe still is) a great fighter for freedom. (In former times together with her husband Hugh Masekela - great songwriter and trumpeter.) I cannot get enough to hear this song sung by her!

Miriam Makeba!!! What a musical icon! I also grew up in awe of her music. I remember listening to this song, and trying to learn how to do that rhythmic breathing. After days - (weeks, months!!) - I got it, and proceeded to hyperventilate!! Do you know how hard that is to do? Try it, and have a large canister of oxygen nearby!! And I thought that some of the phonmes of Arabic were hard to get my vocal apparatus around. I always loved Ms Makeba's works, but could not figure out how to pronounce some of the words. It isn't a great deal easier now, even knowing which part of the respiratory system they come out of. That does not diminish my appreciation of her music a bit.

Bwala, Bongi was born december 20th 1950 and she died in 1985 from complications during childbirth it happened while Ms Makeba was in exile in Guinée Conakry. She is survived by a daughter Zenzi who lives in Paris and a son Lumumba.
