i'm not 100% but i think it's just because it gets a smoother sound than using your foot to close the hats. and the "technque" is a simple concept.. just grab it. lol but it's all about applying the right pressure so you get the right amount of "fuzz"

This is something I discovered. In order to become a better total drummer, I took my kit apart, and drummed each piece individually. Every hat, cymbal, tom, snare I owned, I worked out on alone. It makes for better solos. Max Roach's Hat work was always a staple in my exercises.

Okay, I'm confused. I'm at round 9 (per written instructions). Should I continue with this round? Should round 10 be a round of 1 SC in each stitch and then row 11 be as you suggested above. I added increase instructions to my crochet blog. In round 10, approximately every 5-6 stitches, you will do 2 single crochet in each stitch. You will have about 10 increases. That will give you approximately 65 single crochet instead of 55.

I completed my first beanie cap watching your video. thx. The seam did not match up at all and i didn't know how to correct it. I used a sugar and cream worsted weight yarn (green and white). That is a very good question. The crochet hook size does determine the size of the cap along with the yarn you use and your individual crochet style. It plays a big part but there are other variables that can make your cap turn out smaller. I used a size "I" crochet hook.

Carrying yarn as demonstrated in the video is saving on yarn. If you cut the yarn, the tails will be longer that what you have carried. The tails might be 5-6" long. I am not crocheting over the yarn as I go around. The carried yarn stays at the beginning, until I get back around and pick it up to change color.

Those VMs you're talking about rely on having expensive zSeries (mainframe) or pSeries hardware. This is being demonstrated on PC hardware. The big proprietary hw/sw vendors are way ahead of the commodity PC market. However unless you have million bucks lying around you won't be able to make much use of IBM's vm technology.

Totally doubt it. Nehalem will wipe the floor with anything from AMD until at least the end of 2009. Quickpath is better than HT3 (more bandwidth) and Nehalem is better at FPU and Integer calculations that Deneb and even the upcoming Shanghai processor from AMD. This means Intel will rule from top to bottom. Hopefully AMD can bring out something competitive soon.

This is what I meant by putting the cap on the top of my head. The crown will start to curl up on occasion throughout the increase rows. I have a general idea, what the shaping of the cap will be, by placing it on the crown of my head. I do this with the first few rounds so I know if it is shaping correctly.

What I would suggest is to use a larger crochet hook. I used a size "I" Boye hook. If you use a Susan Bates hook, the head is smaller which will make the stitch tighter. You may crochet tighter naturally so sometimes a hook size increase will be enough to make the cap larger and you don't need to increase more stitches.

Ok maybe I was a bit misleading...I didn't get THAT far where it can actually wrap around my head...I was still like closer to the top of the hat and it was just curving down. From the looks of it, it looked like ti would fit like a 6 year old or something. What I do is to put the hat on the top of my head and see if it fits. There should be enough give, that it will wrap over your head. If you find that it is to tight. Since you are well in to the hat, you may only need to do a few increases. You can try increasing 7 Single crochet evenly around. That should probably be enough to make it fit.
