One thing with the solid suspension is that it really does not make much of a difference. And I will admit, the car was made for American roads. The roads are straightaways for miles, perfectly paved, and flat. Nobody needs indep susp for that. Not to mention any idiot can take a car on a solid rear axel and drive it like mad without screwing up. But this is the last thing, and makes the most "sense". Cost. The ticket cost is supposedly 5000$ cheaper with the solid axel. They need to sell/make$

they got independent suspension even on their econobox Focus. personally i think they did the live rear axle suspension to mimic the original mustang, which is what the whole new mustang is all about. im not trying to justify their decision. i think its proven to be a major blunder, but i dont think it had to do with cost

What's new with the Super Snake? I haven't read anything about them (been a while since I took the time to get caught up on the newest car releases). The GT 500 was an absolute blast to drive, but at that cost I agree that they aren't worth the money. One problem I had with it is that heavy iron block engine in the front, the weight balance is off (out-handles my 2001 Bullitt, but that heavy engine sure makes the nose heavy).

As for handling, it could use some work. As a daily driver it rides nice and smooth but if you try to corner fast with it you'll be hanging on tight. Aftermarket work would improve the cornering ability, but would hamper it's daily drivability, and I'd rather have it as a practical road car, myself. 5th Gear is right about the diff though as it is a bit lazy at locking up if you ask me. At any rate it's an awesome car and worth the sticker price, but the dealer markup is insane.

First off, I'd like to know how many commenters here have even driven one of these cars. Probably not many. I test-drove one back when they came out and just about bought it until they hit me with the price. Sticker was $47k but dealer markup, gas guzzler tax, and other crap put it up to around $65k and that's just too much for a car (for me, at least). Driving one is simply amazing though, the power is smooth and clean yet it will throw you back into your seat. *Continued below*

I wouldnt try to save up for a saleen mustang over a GT500 if there the same price... GT500 are 5.4 L with forged internals, making them very easy to mod for a lot of horsepower. Dont get me wrong, I love the saleens... but I wouldnt compare it to a GT500... and saleen/roush/ford are probably all very conservative tunes... Brenspeed and Bama tunes are where its at now a days... EVERYbody and their moms have one or the other...

Yes, it's a stock s/c however with a smaller s/c pulley and under drive pulley they can generate much more boost. It's not as efficient as throwing a larger twin screw supercharger, but it'll still help get you those numbers with no problem.

True, the GT500 does come with a conservative tune. But get your local performance shop to throw a pulley, exhaust, CAI, and custome tune on it and she'll be above 600hp at the wheels. You really don't need Saleen to tune and if they did a "Saleen/GT500" they'd probably want $100,000+ for it.

that red cobra is extremely fast. And to nutz, yeah a Mustang weighs more than a C6 it's a pony car not a full on sports car. Those Cobras were not overweight though, the GT500 is..buch much less so than anything from Mopar or the new Camaros. How much does a z06 weigh compared to a Ford GT? Remember your car isn't stock if you're trying to compare HP to weight ratio. The GT500 stock (like your 68 back in the day) is a great starting point. With the GT500 and a few bolt on mods (no internal engine work) you can easily get in to the 11's 10's and even 9's proven by Evolution Performance ... BWT impressive times!

Disconnected compared the other cars they have driven I guess.. I didn't do the comparisons i just read them. I was asked what I have read and said basically what i remember... I read/watch information about a lot of cars each week. I just recall one or more of the conclusions from most of them. Once again my problem was not mainly with the viper it self but with the axing of the SRT-4 a less expensive highly marketable product.

Disconnected compared to what? ALl the vipers ive driven were tight. Poor sigh, ya- but its by no means a hindrance on the track. Gear boxes on the first gends are rather loose, 2-4th gens however are very tight and notchy. Unpredictability is a given, however the 3rd/4th gens were sharply toned down. Just adds to the fun though, not everyone can drive a viper. Each and every viper ive been in had excellent throttle response, even the 4th despite being DBW.

Could not understand why they would dump a car that sells a lot, but keep a car that does not bring in anywhere near as much money. I don't think the necessarily need to dump the viper I just can't understand their logic.

That's pretty easy look up a couple of car comparisons or critics from any credible magazine or car show and MOST will complain about the build quality, disconnected steering, poor sight lines and vague gear box, other will complain about the suspension, unpredictability at the limit, and engine response (engine response on a track in a straight line I have read any complains) in any case my problem was more with dumping the SRT-4 than keeping the keeping the viper..

Nein das wollte ich dir nicht sagen. Der "Standard 'Stang" hat 305 PS ,und ich habe gelesen, das der ungedrosselt 260 und ein paar zerquetschte rennen soll. Der Shelby ist auf jeden Fall gedrosselt und würde wohl noch etwas schneller sein.

I was fortunate to have attended that event, and got to spend an hour behind the wheel of that Tungsten convertible you see thru-out the clip...great fun, especially doing 120mph down I-680...too bad the six cars that were there were sent to the crusher (prototypes), I offered them cheap money so they didn't need to transport them back to Dearborn :-)

Shelby's personal Super Snake that sold for $5.5 million last weekend did not have stripes, is Carroll stupid?
