I think when it says "the world can do so much more" it's referring to how we as a people must help everyone else - not to save their souls or bring them to heaven as only Jesus can do, but help the poor, be kind to each other, etc. "some days we forget to look around us" . . it also says. I think it's just saying that we have so much to be thankful for, and we don't see that, and we don't see how other people are hurting. but that's just what i take the song as. It is a shame that such a beautiful song has to have a few lines that make it incompatible with my faith, but like saxionol says, it depends on how you look at it. I don't mean it as a slight to the masterful Josh Groban, but I agree that this performance does not convey the same degree emotion as Don McLean's. Perhaps its that McLean's less-technical performance gives an ethos of vulnerability and his reservation creates a stronger response than Groban's marvelous and prominent vocals? Whatever the reason, I believe McLean's classic performance is most certainly more moving, even though Groban's execution is a technical masterpiece.

he didn't say that he didn't like the way he sung this song. he clearly stated that he thinks josh groban is a failure at singing, saying, "his talent isn't singing". and i think that if you are going to say something like that then you better be able to do better than the person you're talking about. i wouldn't have had a problem with him just saying that he likes the older version.

I don't agree with MsLambent(like both the classic one and this), but i believe everyone has his own taste, even though others might applaud or disagree. It makes no sense to say like, "record this song yourself then", MsLambent didn't say he's better than Josh, or he can interpret the song better, he's just stating a fact: the fact that he didn't like how Josh sung it.
