I love Lou's voice, on EVERY record he's ever done, sympathize with the cancer etc., and wish him well, but his voice (currently) is shot. It may improve, and I hope so, but as it stands today, it's not like it was by ANY means - end of! Also, I don't like his website - "his unique brand of r'n'r". What is "unique" about it? It's A1-excellent, certainly, but other bands make songs just as awesome! He doesn't "own" a particular type of music!

That's from complications from his brain surgery. He had a tumor remmoved. The surgery did not go as planned. He had some nerve damage that affected his voice some early on. There were some other complications as well. The weight is due to the medication he has to take. His voice is actually getting better the more he sings. He sounds much better now than he did when he first started his comeback touring. Shame on Mick Jones for giving up on him!

Meanwhile, the country has grown best with a sensible combination of social programs and the profit motive. boots: Gold, like any other commodity, varies in value as supplies or demand varies. Compromised liberty has nothing to do with the fed and everything to do with frightened responses to 9/11. The money of a country under a fiat system will vary with the confidence of people in the gov't of that country vis-a-vis other countries' governments. Good as gold, that's what the US dollar used to be called. Now is as good as paper. Its painful watching not only the wealth of a nation go down the tubes, but the freedom and Liberty that the goes with it. Honest money doesn't have hidden taxes attached to it, like inflation. Trust the "paper" at your own risk, so far it has lost almost 40% of its value just in the last 3 to 4 years. Gold should not be 900 + an onze, if the money system is "honest".

The main reason gold has historically been a good means for regulating the money supply is that it doesn't have any practical value, and it can generally be mined only very slowly (the money supply will generally only increase a few percent a year). However, rather than base the money supply on how fast people can mine for gold, why not base it on what would be best for the macroeconomy... like we currently do with the fed?

The bankers who underwrote these interest only loans, etc. loans that re-adjust never saw the housing bubble bursting coming ?? They allowed naive people who never owned a home to buy one w/no money or little money down?? They charged them predatory lending rates.
