Correct me if Im wrong but didnt b.j.j come from judo taught be Maeda. Also if you watch Kamura vs Halio on youtube the Gracie commentator refers to Kamura as a jujutsu fighter not a judoka. The Gracies deserve allot of respect but are somehow embarrassed by judo, I dont understand.

Actually his holding on after the taps has a story behind it. Early on, an opponent denied the tap after having done it (Ken Shamrock), which infuriated Royce. Gerard gordeau allegedly bit Royce's ear, and the kung-fu guy talked smack against the gracies and had fought them in the past. I think Royce was so scarred by these early bad experiences that he decided never to leave it to chance.

After the comments he's made about Fedor and Nogueira, I don't think people want to give him any credit or respect. 0:06 to say he's beaten them all is a farce. I know Rickson is good but he isn't one of the best. Who has he beaten? ALL NOBODIES. He even refused to fight a washed up Sakuraba in Pride. His 400+ victories with no defeats is blown up. He never fought a fight he knew would be a challenge. They were all set up against weaker opponents. I respect the Gracie family for what they've done for the world of MMA, but I can't say that Rickson is the best.

yes thats true,when you get a dominant position you have all the time that you need becaouse masters in other arts and especially those that dont train anything dont have a chance to change the positions.... Bjj is chess of martial arts,its all about strategy....ofc in a street fight you wont stall the fight,you will finish it as soon as possible,and thats where speed,strenght and technique comes up....

....now to go back to the speed part...Bjj trains speed,strenght,endurance,flexibility and reaction.....its just not as obviously seen as in Kung Fu becaouse most of the battle is on the ground....but trust me Bjj masters are extremly fast....we spend a lot of time in training explosive reaction and movements in our academy....and pls dont get me wrong,i respect ALL martial arts,i just prefer Bjj and think that it is the best..besides MMA ofc ;D

....and as soon as he got him to the floor he could have finished him in matter of seconds....he just wanted to prove that he is superior so he was litteraly slapping the guy around....and the kung fu guy made several mistakes that a Bjj trainee stops doing during the first week of training....example:while on the floor he was pushing Gracie with his arms completely straight...thats an invitation to Armbar City....to be continued...

wahay143...about the speed and reaction... you mentioned kung fu which gives him superior speed...that is incorrect...Bjj trains alot about speed and reaction aswell,well atleast at my academy...and there vas a Vale Tudo match with the Gracies and a Vice-champion of the world in kung fu...Graice didnt only defeat him,he humiliated him....it took him about a minute to take the kung fu guy to the ground and then he just slapped him silly for the next couple of minutes....to be continued..

But judo is primarily a SPORT derived from Martial arts, while BJJ is a self-defense art. yes while low seoinage may do less dmg than a well executed harai goshi or kata-guruma, it is in line of the of the SPORT part is to bring your opponent on the back, not cause dmg. yeah, and falling down stairs hurt ur ankles don't they? likewise a nice foot sweep. both reduce ur capability to fight, leave u on the ground, exposed and vulnerable.

listen, two men rolling on the mat is not silly like you claim. do you not have a memory? if you watch judo prior to the 70's the ijf allowed more time on newaza than they do now. the rules should be more lenient towards newaza, cause it will be more marketable if the conditions permit. falling down a flight of stairs and being thrown are to separate events. i would have to explain the physics and biomechanical factors.

leg locks were eliminated for COMPETITION because its a hazard. ne waza is still important in judo. i myself depend alot on newaza for those close match-ups. (and against thoselow cg or those wif long legs/arms..almost impossible to throw sometimes)doesn't mean some judokas give up on it makes it less important. its very much part of judo. but competition-wise, its silly to watch 2 grown man on the ground tossing and turning. also, a nice hard throw on nice hard solid dirt can smtimes be enough.

The thing with him is his confidence on the matt. He is so sure of his abilities. I saw him at abu dabi 2007 and the 2008 worlds. He knows how to use his size/weight. He's been doing this forever. He moves well for a big man. He trains hard, and is training his judo even harder now. His dad is Maurição Motta Gomes, who could smash any of us regardless of his age in bjj. I would pay to see a serious rolling session between him and Rickson.
