There will never be another singer as good as Barbara Cook, who first sang this great aria when she first climbed Bernstein's peak in the original "Candide" (which ran only 63 performances). But Dessay is in full voice here as a singer and she knows just how to play to the audience, too. She's really fine delivering all the goods with this great, but damned hard to do prima donna aria.

I must ask, did you actually listen to the words? She sings very early on how she's "Forced to bend my soul to a sordid role". Later she sings, "Observe how bravely I conceal the dreadful, dreadful shame I feel". Not having any real fun? She's not SUPPOSED to be having fun! The whole point is she's pretending to laugh when all she wants to do is scream. And this she does... marvelously. "Hysterical", "not cool"... your criticism is in fact a huge compliment to her performance!

I liked mountains till I listened to it for the 100th time on kerrang lol. nah, why would I buy the mountains single when i can just watch it on kerrang. it's same for queens of the stone age. I'm a VERY big fan and I loved go with the flow until it got on rock baand and was always on kerrang. they could've put on a song for the dead with it's amazing intro or little sister for the riff but they put one of the shitter songs on. anyway, lets not argue. we both like biffy clyro.
