So glad I found this channel, and thanks for posting it! Some kids were even shipped to North America to escape the threats posed at that time. (I read a book by one who was sent to Akron, Ohio that way. 10 years old, I think, he found it an adventure.) The great events of life and history are left to mundane people to write about, but the mundane day-to-day life that meanwhile transpires during those events gets overlooked unless characters like you speak up. I have seen the documentaries called 1900 House and 1940 House. The house you described was very much like the 1900 house. I was able to imagine your life very well. Maybe the newspaper was to save money. Or maybe your father wanted to use butcher paper because he had plenty (no cost) and she found the newspaper a better low-cost option. On the 1940s House the toilet paper didn't look soft at all. People must have crumpled them up good before using them, but it'd still be uncomfortable.

Following the London gathering some of our friends (Huey and Tom) went on to visit Peter (geriatric1927) We went accross to collect them from Peter's house to come and stay at ours and I had chance to meet and chat with Peter, who is a wonderful and inspirational gentleman!

RUMOR: JFK tragic death was result of re-election stunt went wrong. A relection stunt that was supposed to be a failed attempt. He was down in the polls and that was the only sure way to go into the election with a sudden increase in popularity, based on sympathy for a failed attempt. Question is why he suddenly leaned forward into the path he knew would miss him. Some say steroid use made him moody. He was always very death conscious. RFK set up stunt but JFK's own quirk made it tragic.
