Even thou I am a red sox fan. I love Lou Gehrig. How he played, how he hit and how he loved the game. Even thou I was not around I knew from looking at clips and pictures he loved the game. There will never be other Lou Gehrig but I hope there more players like him.

he died from ALS. which stands for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It can start in your legs and work its way up. Then soon you lose control of your muscles. When you die from ALS, you pretty much just suffocate cause you cant breathe.

By far the greatest 1st baseman in history- his numbers if he had not lost his life at an early age would have surpassed everyone in RBIs and he would have nearly 600 homers..He was clutch--he was class...He was a family man who loved his parents and wife. Lou Gehrig was a man that played through emotion even now when I look back at all the players of the MLB, no one, no one could and can match his playing style. He was a man of honesty and patience, and for that the MLB is in debt to him even as he has passed. Just think of how baseball would've stayed the same from the players of the 30's to 70's we would still get chills in the ball park. We are in debt of those who passed, but we always will never forget them.

i respect and love the yankee history, and i know a lot about it, even though im only 15. But I do not like them, because of what they have become. They have become the superpower of baseball, the rich snobs that basically HAVE to win. It seems like if the Yankees don't win, then baseball isn't right. All the yankee fans complain when they dont win. Also, enough is enough when it comes to their history, because it seems like thats all that Yankee fans rely on to say that their team is great.

Babe Ruth,Lou Gehrig and Tony Lazzeri. The big three of 1927. The reason why there is so many Yankee hater's is because they were either not born or old enough to have a real appreciative respect and concept of the intense history of this team. It is impossible describe something 30 years ago in 1977 when I first followed them or before my time some 60 years ago when people saw the team 10,20,30... times better than even 1977,1996 or even 1998.

It was great that the Babe and Lou ended their feud when he got sick...and was great to see the Bambino playing himself in Pride of the Yankees. Ruth had less than 7 years left himself, succumbing to cancer in 1948 at the young age of 53. These were the two greatest Bronx Bombers. As a kid i went to many games at the old Stadium and always was in awe, and walked my the monuments in center field many times going and leaving the games. Great memories.

That was just kind of a throw-a-way comment I put in at the end. While I do stand by it, I wasn't expecting to start a conversation over it. The problem with the Simpsons sorta started happening when Homer just got a new job every week and it started to infact get too "off the edge and insane." Season 9/10 were the last seasons I could consider any good. Anyways that is about all I have to say about that.

Not to disrespect Lou by making this a Simpsons discussion, but I am as long term a Simpsons fan as there is and you have to lay off. Granted, 2003-2005 was not very good. Awesome speech. I'm only 25, but a large reason I've known this speech and loved it for so long is because well for some reason or another when you beat a level in the game Return Fire for the Playstation this speech plays. Also Homer parodied this speech too in the Dancin' Homer episode when the Simpsons were still relevant and funny.

Wrong, actually those words he spoke were because during his speech that day a kid that he had met some yeare earlier was stricken with polio and could not walk showed up on the field prior to the beginning of his speech walking with the help of braces. That moved him and inspired him to say the words he did.

im 22 years old and my dad died of ALS in 2006my mother also had breast cancer when i was in the 3rd grade. i have never seen such a disease as of ALS. it is awful. If there are any teenagers that need to talk that parents who have any of these diseases i am more than welcome to talk.

My mom's co-worker has ALS and I'm really sad about it. Her step-kids won't help to walk for the ALS disease, even though she raised them for fourteen years. The biological mom, is an alchoholic, and the dad died three years ago. She recently bought a town house and gave the biggest room to the youngest daughter and bought her a $500 graduation dress. She's dying in June. She's been really nice to the step-kids and they won't help her out. It just makes me want to cry.

My mother (Joan) has ALS, she was diagnosed on Feb 14,2005. We did not know what to do or where to turn. We joined a support group and have been helped and learned so much. My suggestion to those families that have a loved one diagnosed is to find a support group. They truely can help you get through the difficult times. Please pray for us as we will pray for you.
