It does take a ridiculous amount of strength, concentration, training, and practicie to sing opera. I'm saddened by how people underestimate and even under appreciate opera these days. As a former vocal performance major I have a lot of respect for this man stepping out and singing his heart out. Even if it was for a few moments. And this is SUCH an EPIC Aria that has made or broken MANY tenors in the past.

Here is the thing about Paul Potts. He is a great singer, but he doesn't have the power. His voice is almost awkward although good in his own respect. No doubt he is a great singer. But, Neil Boyd is more of a Pavarotti type figure. His power blows you off your feet and it is almost unsurpassed. That is what determines a great Opera singer. His voice is amazing and his power is ridiculous, something Potts doesn't have. That is why Neil Boyd is better than Paul Potts

The judges are standing because Neal is a brillant singer. That was a spectacular performance of a classic opera song. I've heard Paul Potts, and while his version was incredible. Neal's version is just as spectacular. I don't get why people are comparing the two. It sounds like sour grapes to me. Congratulations Neal.

That's so true. Not only about this act but about every act on this show. The judges are supposed to be able to judge all kinds of talent, when really they know nothing about anything at all, and just follow the easiestly impressed audience anyware.

none of the men should be singing nessun dorma!!!!!!!!! what the hell. the role of calaf is for a dramatic tenor, and none of these "tenors" do it justice at all. they probably don't even know what they're saying, or know what turandot is even about. seriously, people think they can sing a song and people who don't know opera at all (like this entire audience and panel) pee their pants. it's really sickening.

it's simple...Potts, very powerful voice and I can actually listen to him and enjoy...Boyd, has a nice talent, but I found myself asking "is he done yet?" on each of his performances. I think it's great that he won...life changing and all that jazz, but I can't see him making a decent career from this...there's just not enough interest to sustain it and his voice puts me to sleep.

I tend to believe that "Layla" WAS the result of his feelings for Patti Harrison. He was crazy about her, and she was married to a good friend of his. He eventually DID get his "Layla", but due to his inability to keep his pants zipped that marriage failed too. Rock stars make terrible boyfriends and husbands.

I never said she was great. She does seem relatively unoffensive, at least in comparison to a lot of rock star paramours. She doesn't exhibit a huge ego, wasn't particularly slutty, and has never been known for acting like an idiot. I find her a lot more appealing than Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg, Bebe Buell and Pamela Des Barres. And if "Something" and "Layla" were created with her in mind, then something good and lasting was created in part due to her.

First time I saw Neal, I said 'he's gonna win'. Even before seeing any other acts, you just saw Neal as a winner. I also favored Eli Mattson to win, as well as Queen Emily, but Neal always came across as THE winning talent for this years competition. His voice is phenomenal. I almost appreciate his voice as much as Karen Carpenters. ALMOST. Anyways, congrats Neal!

You don't need to be a cook to criticize a bad meal served to you in a restaurant, and you don't need to be an opera singer to find that a particular performer lacks the talent that would make him outstanding or even just good. All you need is a certain amount of experience with the topic, which also includes having something in comparison. Neal E. Boyd has a nice voice, but he will never be a critically acclaimed operatic performer like e.g. Pavarotti, Björling, Wunderlich or Vickers.

In times of America's or Britain's got Talent it seems to become popular to vote below mediocre performers to the top if they only do classical music. Part of the reason is that the stories behind the so-called 'tenors' are emotional and cause people to simply like them. Even more important though is that very few in the audience and apparently none of the judges have much experience with classical music. Thus any such act appears to be impressive, while in fact it is of lowest quality.

I said the same thing first time I saw Neal 'he's gonna win'. Even before seeing any other acts, you just saw Neal as a winner. I also favored Eli Mattson to win, as well as Queen Emily, but Neal always came across as THE winning talent for this years competition. His voice is phenomenal. I almost appreciate his voice as much as Karen Carpenters. ALMOST. Anyways, congrats Neal!

Okay, here's the thing, and this is coming from someone who wanted very much to see Eli Mattson take it all and knows a touch about classical and operatic music: "Nessun Dorma" is a demanding aria: it requires both enormous energy and enormous subtlety. Neal brought BOTH and on top of that, his own interpretation in terms of phrasing, nothing like Pavarotti or Domingo. Would love to hear him tackle Rudolfo in "La Boheme," for sure. Kudos, Neal, you busted yer butt and it paid off! BRAVO!!!

My Husband simply cries when you even bring up the name Neil Boyd.The differnce between Neil and Paul as singers is neil sings from the experience of life's struggle.
