Sorry to disappoint you, but they actually were on drugs when the whole concept of the videoclip came to them. They themselves said so (and by "they" I mean the guys at Encyclopedia Pictura). They probably weren't when they had to get to work, thou'. Bu then again, who knows?

It's a ReacTable and it was created by spanish computer scientists(and musicians),I got to know these guys and let me tell you,they got plenty of other cool ideas with 'em.The reactable works with some pattern recognition stuff,first you put a cube with an image on one face,and that image represents,a beat,a scratch,or some other things to customize the sound(Square waves,sinusoidal waves,even custom sounds). apart from being an amazing production, this video almost reflects bjorks' protest approach to china (declare independence/tibet song in shanghai this year). in the last section, the character appears to be in a toy factory, with the end segment of music contextualising it as in chinese. brilliantly subversive!!!!
