The reason it's making that noise is because it's carrying it's maximum weight capacity.
By: edelwood. on 22 Nov 08, 19:43:49
I'm sure it wouldn't drive soldiers crazy after several minutes of walking next to that thing. I can imagine opposing soldiers would have fun playing with it after their ambush, though.

It's steps on black ice or just ice it's amazin how it tries to keep it's balance and re-structure it's stand and it does after several attempts the goal was it didn't flip over or fell flat out like I did and lost my breath and drop my coffee jejeje but yeah :D

By: OrielFilms. on 21 Nov 08, 06:20:43
The way that thing reacted to the ice was amazing, iv seen videos of the Asimo super hitech robot not even manage to walk up stairs and fall over. But this things amazing, you could almost think it was a live with way it reacts to the enviroment

I don't understand...what's the purpose of this thing?
By: away5. on 20 Nov 08, 23:40:35
WTF on 1:27 is this?
By: Karatula3. on 20 Nov 08, 22:03:58
Wot teh fok.
By: oilotnoM. on 20 Nov 08, 20:07:00
Now ... my bet is that you could barely break that process down at all, sufficing to leave it as practically intractable concepts at about the conceptual level of "walk to the ball", "pick the ball up" and "request possession of the ball (using which language?).
By: oilotnoM. on 20 Nov 08, 19:59:41
Taking into account what might happen to the environment as you traverse it, how that might require alteration of your plan (before actually requiring the plan to be altered) and also the trivial task of maintaining your balance while executing your motions. Then there is the social aspect, suppose the pingpong ball is in the custody of someone else, how do you obtain the ping pong ball then?
By: oilotnoM. on 20 Nov 08, 19:53:10
I'll try and help you though: Describe how you think. Take a specific example, a very "simple" task such as picking a ping pong ball up. Now, you probably didn't actually have to consciously think about the exact taughtness you needed to achieve with each of the tens of muscles you needed to do that task, combined with analysing the dimensions, location, surface and bulk characteristics of said ping pong ball and out of the entire visual environment infront of you, plan how you will get it.
By: oilotnoM. on 20 Nov 08, 19:44:18
And that's _trivial_ compared to the task of actually having a system be able to form arbitrarily complex self motivated goals, such as deciding to try to find the fastest route, without having been specifically programmed to attempt such a decision (i.e. it must formulate its own decision criteria and act upon them in a meaningful way). You have no concept of how difficult it is to do something like that using current computer technology, you simply don't.
By: oilotnoM. on 20 Nov 08, 19:34:52
What an ignoramus, you speak as if robotic technology like that exists, or is a simple corollary to what already exists. Just "walking" any old place is trivial, building a robot whose sole task is to plan how it will pick up a coke can in a very simplified environment using only binocular visual processing techniques (i.e. no cheating using sonar/radar to assess depth of field) is orders of magnitude more difficult and is a forefront research topic.

VERY cool!
