I've been a Shirley Bassey fan since 1965 (I was only 8). Shirley looks gorgeous here, and she is in great voice. However, I think the orchestration of Goldfinger was awful. It sounded like a few musicians were off key. The video was saved by a decent version of Diamonds are Forever.

I thought the first half of this movie was brilliant. A lot like "From Russia With Love". Unlike that movie however, this one went of the rails a bit in the second half. Seriously, who would believe hairy, 6'2 Sean Connery was Japanese? The "secret volcano lair" scenes were a bit cheesy too. Still one of the better Bond movies, but not the classic I felt it could have been.

Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever are my favorite Sean Connery Bond films! Roger Moore is still my favorite Bond (yeah, I said it!) but still Connery rocks! I've liked all the Bonds. Lazenby, Dalton, Bronsan. Even though I never liked any of Dalton of Bronsan's Bond films much. Lazenby's was awesome! But I have to say that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond so far. He's pure badass!

I agree with you both. The genius of someone like Barry is his ability to take a theme and have it envelop the film. You can't really divorce a Barry theme or score from the images. The latest stuff can be put almost anywhere, and as for some of the title songs, they aren't "themes" whose motifs can be interwoven into the films.

This was my favorite James Bond movie in the series. I love the opening set piece when the space shuttle is hijacked in mid-air right off the back of the 747 jumbo jet killing everybody in the process. My second favorite scene is when Bond rides the gondala boat out of the water hovercraft style, you see a pidgeon watching him do a double-take! Best of all, you get a kickass space battle between space marines and Drax's master race shooting lasers at each other...."pew, pew,pew, pew!"

No ifs' or buts'. Dame Shirley Bassey is and will be the ONLY person in the world to be able to sing it correctly. :cspmendes, I'm not a dumbass, so don't be abusive. If she's 16 then that's all the more reason to not sing it. She just hasn't got the range or power to sing it, now that's a fact. And she may, in your opinion, have "the most wonderful voice" you've heard in a long time, but she cannot sing that song well at all. She may have a wonderful voice, but that doesn't show through in this awful display. I mean look at her when she sings that last note! It's not even singing! It is a scream!

Not sure if you said that for the sake of it but she cannot sing that song well. The only person that can is Dame Shirley herself. This girl cannot hold the infamous end note, I mean look at her!
