Actually, the alto is in Eb, also. Generally, you will sound okay as long as you aren't playing with other instruments, because the intervals between the notes will be the same.

How with the bari? I play the Bari, and if im not mistaken, its in the key of Eb wich means that alto and tenor music would sound, off key when played on the bari, unless ofcourse your talking about fingering, in that case your correct.

I was reading the comments posted below about the 62 yamaha and im a huge yamaha all my saxes are yamha but on the bari 62 it did nothing but dissapoint me its a good horn but thats mearley it.If you are looking for a true work of art on a bari then check out the keilwerths. I am currently saving to buy a Shadow Bari and I will post what my thoughts about it hoping for a realy great bari in this one

yanigisawa and yamaha are the only modern makers of great bari's, but they're too expensive. IMO, conn transitional, yamaha 62, and yanigisawa 991 are the best.

ibik, Baritone's have longer neck's, differnt scale and has heavier gauge strings and is tuned differently (but people tune them all sorts of ways) some people take the Danelectro Baritone and string it and tune it as a six string bass I have never figured out 7 string guitars I would be interested to know what they are about as well

That is one sweet Lang Horn Baritone! The Fret Access much be so much better then the traditional Danelectro Baritone. I am a big Dano fan, don't see many of this type in the US, Long Horn Bass yes, Baritone's no. Fernandez makes a nice one two (with a sustainer system as well) I am a big Baritone fan as well! PRS SE series now has a Baritone (Mike Mushok model from Limp Bitzkit ? spelling, he used to play a Ibazez Baritone the PRS one is only ?$599.99 new where the Ibanez was> $1,000+

This Long Horn Baritone is sweet, don't see many! It's possible your axe is a Danelectro Guitarlin which is a cool piece Link Ray used one alot. Google Danelectro and there are a few really good web sites ( sites of the originals(Silvertone, and Danelectro and the reissues since the late 1990's, the late 1990's were the better ones (I had a limo black 57' Reissue U3 that I kick myself everytime I think about when I sold it! Check out the Paul Reed Smith (PRS SE Baritone its about $599.99)

Not sure what he means by "5 extra frets". I have a 32 fret dano longhorn (one of my favorite guitars), and it's not a baritone. What does the number of frets have to do with the scale of the guitar? Its the length from the nut to the bridge, right?

i have been playing baritone for 10 years. i go to school for baritone. im not trying to insult this man, but he really does not know what he is talking about. baritone is not meant for "barking." you dont bark on an alto or a tenor. just because its bigger doesnt mean it is meant to sound raunchy and bad. its a fun technique to use a brighter tone and stereotypical baritone stuff, but that isnt the only thing it is meant for. he cant even control the intervals. hes dropping his jaw.

No, buddy, you can't judge him by what you see here; i just uploaded a video, playing my bari, and i really don't mean to sound like a jackass, but i know that i have a relatively warm tone, but, the camera messed it up so badly..it's like how some tuners can't properly pick up the sound/wavelength of the sax. camera's distort the sound as well.

I really don't mean to sound rude, but his ound was really aweful. I don't like it at all. His embouchure is very pinched. He sounds like an alto player playing it for the first time. Don't play on a soft reed. If you are withing your first year of playing that is one thing. But please note that the way to a warm rich sound is hard reeds. Forget vandoren for bari sax. Get marca reeds for bari their cut is better and more consistent. And they are from south France just like Vandoren is.

Interesting.First Bari player I have seen that uses 1/3 top lip and 2/3 bottom.He also breaths from the corners of his embrasure.Must have been trained as a trumpet player on Schlossburg exercises at some point. That little exercise he does at 3 min in is pretty cool.I did that back in high school for all state try outs.Its really not all that hard but it takes practice

thanks for the update. I'll be at Disney World next year, so hopefully I can give a shout to him. No wonder you guys had a good low brass..lots of playas playing together for a while..nice....on the bone also for bumblebee? man,,steel chops. I got up to 7th in bari solo inn 89, playin Concert etude..i thought I played pretty good but when I heard Hosmer, dam! there is always someone better, unfortunately. congrats on your corps winning it all this year, I marched with the current director Rick!

Now.... Nice job, Hosmer. You, Dave Lang, Dean Smith, and that guy from Blue Devils '83 were the best in DCI back in the day. I tried, but I think the best I got was 3rd in '87. Playing the Arban arrangement of Carnival of Venice. You definitely took it to the Ho Notha Level.

I can't believe all of the people that are so confident that this is either a 3-valve horn or a euphonium. It's a 2-valve baritone bugle in G. It's not the same as a euphonium bugle, which were also made in 2-valve key-of-G form. Phantom has not always marched euphs exclusively. I have spoken.

I'll second that motion. But I am biased. He's one of my best friends. We both started in the Royal Grenadiers. When that corps disbanded in 1984 James and I (and a number of others) went to Phantom Regiment. James played with Phantom from 1985 through 1989. I'll never forget when he played flight of the bumble bee on his trombone for High School solo and ensemble contest. You can catch him in and around Orlando. He often plays trombone in Walt Disney World's main street marching band.

I was actually standing in front of you when you guys played your exit concert next to us, SCV in '89. that was one of the loudest brass lines I ever heard live in my life! G bugles of the era could not play 4 notes...C#, D, Eb, and Ab in or below the staff...which required a 3rd valve that far down. (all the horns were in the same key and clef...TECHNICALLY the same instrument) You could play Ab above the staff with the 1st valve and pushing the st valve slide all the way in (remember those?), but otherwise, you had to pick a key that minimized 3rd valve combos, especially for the low brass. GREAT job!

with someone as legendary as Callas the mere fact that she's willing to spend that much time on him means that she recognizes his talent. she's correcting him so much because she knows he has the potential to take this piece to a high level of excellence (hence the very specific corrections). she also knows that he can keep up with her as a talented vocalist.

If you attend a master class with a great like Callas or Schwarzkopf or Gencer or Fischer Diskau, you expect to be interrupted and shown new insights into an aria. In this case Willard White relies too much on the beauty of his voice and not enough on interpretation (i.e. getting the emotions through). Opera is theater and Callas conveys that to him. Plus he does not always sing on the note, therefore the interruptions. Great job Callas!

She also researched what the actual composer might want, or demand not only in the score--but in personal writings pertaining to what he had written. I am trained through the line of Tettrazinni in Bel canto, and my master teacher, mia maestra interrupts me as often when needed. callas was demanding him to excavate the ample chest resonance and full appogio to convey the emotion! I think Callas correct too much Willard White, a so fine artist. May be Callas, the best italian opera singer of the century,but not the best voice, want to demonstrate, at that time, she could sing very well. I was wondering the same thing, I also have those 3CDs, which are half-filled with Callas studio recordings. I know the complete masterclasses exist on archive, but I don't know where to get it. On the other hand, I'm not sure I would want to have the whole thing, except maybe for collection's sake. There are other soon-to-be famous singers. I think Barbara Hendricks was a participant.
