Where is KC & The Sunshine Band? Woodstock had Jimmy Hendrix? Just Kidding. I grew up in the 70's and was able to enjoy all the talent the Barkays, Mass Production, EW&F, Bootsy, and all the rest of the excellent black artist had to offer. What happened? I would have gone to WATTSTAX instead of WOODSTOCK if I was old enough...even though I'm white. We need to bring this "one nation under a groove again!" Thanks for the posting.

I saw him and met him in the fall of 1966 in Houston, Texas and he died in that awful plane crash the day after my 25th birthday. I can dig it. Influence can be a good thing, as in this case. Yeah, go back to the Do You See What I See LP, you can hear elements of Stevie Wonder and others incorporated in their sound @ the Time. The Black Rock LP they actually cover Sly & The Family Stones - 'Dance To The Music'. I hear elements of Funkadelic on the Black Rock LP. The Original Bar-kays line-up were influential on many groups too. Larry and the guy's are great @ incorporating other people sounds in their own.

It's interesting that you would point that out. It really makes me wonder if there EVER was a time when the Bar-Kays weren't piggy-backing off of somebody else's sound. In later years they scored hits sounding like Cameo, EWF, Midnight Star and probably a few others I can't remember right now. It used to bug the shit out of me...LOL. I still have the Propositions album this came from, though the stereo player I used died back in 98. Still, your version does as much jumping as my player did before I trashed it. Good song, though I kind of grooved on Anticipation on the album more than Trippin Out.
