I love how a "bagpipe instructor" like this guy shows the "right" way to play bagpipes by demonstrating some of the poorest finger posture I've ever seen as a bagpiper. Please stop "teaching" people on Youtube. For the sake of this instrument, let them find a qualified instructor with whom they can meet personally. Our ultimate goal is to produce quality music, you can't do that just by watching "instructional" videos such as this one.

Seconded, he cannot play, it's unfortunate because he's better there than you'd expect from his stuff on stage, but he's attempting stuff that's well beyond his ability. He could probably play a slow air or even a march if he could be bothered to learn it and hels teh tempo. He gives the impression that he once put in a bit of practice but doesn't bother and never really polished those tunes or if he did he's lost it. His fans don't care that he's terrible, so why bother, they think he can pipe.

Okay mate, I'm gonna be honest, that sounded like trash, but if you've got a practice chanter I reccommend you find a tutor book or somethin like that and just practice! And you don't have to lift your fingers a hundred miles off the chanter. Make sure that there are no unclean crossing noises when you change notes. I could go on forever pal

ok.. I might not be the best when it comes to bagpipes.. but i have been playing since 9. I am 12 now. I still practice ALL of my songs on my practice chanter, even sometimes weeks before i play the songs on the pipes, making sure i have all of the grace notes down and everything. Then moving on to playing parts of the songs on bagpipes. And, getting a teacher is the best way to go. this is mine: bagpipesnorth. com (pictures and everything on there.) keep practicing!

dude, PRACTICE CHANTER. you need to learn the grace notes and doublings first (on the chanter)! im about your age, and ive been playing for a couple years. it sucks to learn on the chanter, cause you really want to be on the pipes for real. but be patient, learn slowly, do it correctly. i did the chanter for about 6 months, and now i can basically learn a song off sheet musi or by ear in 5 minutes. but if youre doing it by ear, dont skip grace notes and doublings. message me with questions!
