That's because they are ignorant. The kilt is the most ancient piece of cloth, and wearing it is to show off your heritage and ancient lineage. The bagpipe instead is a warrior instrument. It's supposed to "annoy" you. It's high pitched voice is an adrenaline booster, which would prepare the people to fight.

You don't constantly blow into a bagpipe that's the point of the "bag" or in this case glove. It retains air and the air is forced out through the chanter ( piece at the the bottom with the holes) usually you have to squeeze the bag to get air to come out but here the elasticity of the rubber forces the air out.

Why fix the reed??? you gotta have a good crow! For those of you who don't know (the majority of you) a crow is that scratchy sound on the high A. If you're from Canada you hate 'em, if you're from Scotland, you like 'em. And if you're me, they're a gem to have in a reed.

Gotta admit. As a highland piper I've heard 3 or 4 dozen kinds of pipes from around the world. But these are the ones I like the best. Bulgarian seem to like appreciate the pipes even more than the Scots too. However i can't understand why they hide the piper and put a mime artist on stage. For eye candy! She's not even in a sexy dress.

I love how a "bagpipe instructor" like this guy shows the "right" way to play bagpipes by demonstrating some of the poorest finger posture I've ever seen as a bagpiper. Please stop "teaching" people on Youtube. For the sake of this instrument, let them find a qualified instructor with whom they can meet personally. Our ultimate goal is to produce quality music, you can't do that just by watching "instructional" videos such as this one.

It's almost impossible to self-learn, and even if you do, you won't be all that great. My advice is to get a live instructor; this instrument is one of the hardest out there.

Yeah, but you can't join another country's military most of the time unless you're a citizen of that country. To do that you have to live in country at least four years before applying for citizenship. (Unless you join the French or Spanish Foreign Legions, but no pipes. :D )

Actually... Archaeologists found an unusual instrument in Ireland and Scotland that was just a long, curved, bronze tube. Nobody knew for a long time what it was or how to play it. That is until someone finally realized it resembled the Australian didgeridoo and tried playing the bronze horn like a didgeridoo. Turns out that the Irish and Scots have something in common with Australians. Funny eh?! An I don't care if some of you out there don't believe me, I know its true.
