it's not a matter of incompetence it's a matter of indifference. Not once have the civilian casualites in Iraq been mentioned during this election. Most people don't care and those that do would be branded unamerican for saying as much. I'm a former US Soldier with PTSD, when I brought up the dead civilians in counseling I was asked why their deaths bothered me more than my comrades. The question was ridiculous to me; we volunteered to live with war, the civilians did not.

You missed my point. A well designed hydrualic system has "fuses" built into the system. These " fuses" act as shut off valves to keep a total hydraulic fluid loss from happening in case of exstensive damage to a section of the system. The DC-10 didn't have the fuses and it looks like Airbus dosen't either.

I certainly think this is a winning approach to take if you want to provoke Western people's outrage against the war, that is, using the plight of war orphans to illustrate the injustice of the war and occupation. I was curious to learn that Saddam Hussein's government supported social programs and an educational system that accomodated so many low income children.
