I have to agree with tron565. The police stop being police when they agree to take orders from the media. Where was their judgement as law enforcement officers? Chris Hansen is not a policeman. His only role should be interviewing and storytelling. Not overseeing police stings. THEY gave him that power.

And you are? Having a squad of police officers tackle an unarmed suspect with their weapons drawn is an absolute recipe for disaster. Go take a firearms safety course. And as much as you dislike the prospect of these people whom you percieve as guilty walking free, their right to a fair trial and due process is inalienable. All the more reason for investigations to be taken up by law enforcement, so more comprehensive cases can be brought before court.

I'd like to see some statistics about the impact of this show on internet solicitation rates in the U.S. The point of the show is to humiliate perverts, and it does a great job. I couldn't imagine a better way to deter a potential offender. Maybe MSNBC let a few slide in special circumstances, but they've scared tens of thousands of others away. It's all relative, brother.

I think the point is that the camera encourages overly dramatic arrests which are unsafe, and very unprofessional. Cases where PJ witholds the full transcript are also extremely suspect in my eyes, since I'm sure a lot of what they do borders on entrapment.

How do you reconcile this with the convictions arising from previous Dateline investigations? How does Dateline's camera footage hurt the case? The judge didn't want to appear as though he didn't care for the grieving DA's family.

elgilicious, I believe you're missing the point. If MSNBC interferes with police business at this level, it can make things difficult for the district attorney's office to make the charges stick. Hence, MSNBC's actions are indirectly helping predators get set free. So, if you are for predators getting set free, then support MSNBC, but if you are for sending them to jail, then side with the district attorney.

You're telling me that because he failed to resist the temptation, he should be pitied? He is (I mean, was) a grown man. Adults are responsible for their own actions. All the judges in the other investigations found evidence of intent, so you're taking the exception and making it the rule. The judge threw out these cases simply because Conradt offed himself and he didn't want to be seen as approving it.
