you are totally wrong. Allen Daviau and Spielberg convinced Hoffman to shoot on 35mm. Hoffmann wanted 16mm becausse his FX company had just bought a machine which could convert 16mm to 35mm. The person he met at Universal was not Hoffmann but Chuck Silvers who was the head of library at universal. Chuck Silvers and his associate Julie Raymond gave Spielberg an unpaid Clerical job, and they put him in touch with hoffmann.

This film is brilliant, and I think it does feel 'spielberg'. Like when they're around the campfire about they about to get their F***K on, how its portrayed as so innocently, they're quite scared of what they both want and need to do, but it has to be done. I think he really hits the nail on the head when it comes to things that involve 'growing up'. Getting a bit carried away here, i thought it was great. xxx

there is no spielberg feel because this was just a thing to prove to the big executives at Universal that he had the talent to be in the industry.

Spielberg is a born filmmaker. He proved his passion and skills with this small gem. I liked the end due to the fact that it proves that in real life...a woman won't stay with a dork for long. He seems like a nice guy, but let's get real...

The whole story about Spielberg sneaking on to the Universal Studios lot is only partially true. The other half of the story, the half that Spielberg never tells anybody is that a family friend knew someone who worked at Universal and hooked Steve up with a summer job as a clerical assistant while he was still a junior in high school.

Actually its on 16mm...and another thing is was Dustin C. Hoffman who got Spielberg the chance to Direct.. he met him on the set of Universal after Spielberg jumped off a tour bus and went into a random door way..he said that Hoffman over hered him on the telephone saying he wanted to be a director and then he asked spielberg and he said well I want to be a director, hoffman gave him an office and it had a working phone in it.

He went to long beach but did not graduate until a few years ago. He was always working at universal on set. That was his film school.
