Wow. As I listen to the end of this song I realize something: ST:TNG was one of the few shows where a good number of the best episodes where in the final season. During its original run this was one of the best shows on TV.

Actually, it's because the standard contract in Hollywood for a television series is for 7 years. It can run longer if actors resign, or shorter if the series is cancelled. In TNG's case, the actors all decided to do only the seven years and then move the series into the movie theatres.

Oh. To me, "gave up on" means they decided not to write any more episodes. "cancelled" means forced not to write any more episodes, because hardly anyone would watch them.

Actually, they didn't give Enterprise up. It was cancelled because of low ratings.

Yeah I wasn't sure I just thought I had heard that somewhere. Maybe after TNG they decided to go with 7 over and over? I know that Enterprise was supposed to be 7 years but they gave up on it lol.

More like 7 was a good number to go to. It has nothing to do with Starfleet missions. I believe the Enterprise had a mission of longer than 7 years, they just ended the show after 7 years. Remember that just because a Star Trek show runs 7 years doesn't mean the mission ends after 7 years. Also, Capt. Kirk had a 5-year mission but we only saw 3 years of it, proving that number of seasons doesn't equal length of the mission.
