It WAS a fun time in history to be alive! I'm so glad I grew up in the 60's because the music was the best ever. There was so much variety, and something for everybody. Early to mid-60's had the British Invasion (Beatles; Dusty, etc.),the all American sound (The Beach Boys; 4 Seasons); classic Motown (Supremes; 4 Tops; Temptations). Later in the decade pop turned more to rock and hard rock,(Joplin; Hendrix)and motown to soul music (Wilson Pickett). I think it was the best music decade ever!

Dusty greatly admired American music styles during that time and was inspired by many African American singers...This song,"I Only Wanna Be With You" is an American style...the rythm and the way she sings it is very "American"...most American songs from the 50's and early 60's were about love and had a happy mood and feeling to it...just like this one....she also sounds American when she sings it...most songs from Europe didn't sound anything like "I Only Wanna Be With You"...

We never even heard of "fast food" back then and I loved eating chips that had been wrapped up in the old newspaper, I'm sure the ink added flavour to the chips back then! Considering the date, this performance was proof that the British music industry, such as it was, could produce some great music. Dusty was an original and we will never see the likes of her again. I well remember seeing this performance on Ready Steady Go (while in Primary school), which provoked substantial comments there the following day. We were used to Dusty's ballads and sad, heavy eye makeup. This was quite a change, and a very welcome one. Great posting - thanks.
