It's not difficult in orchestral playing; but it's a lot more fun playing in such conflicting rhythms on piano... left hand in triplets against duplet or quadruplets in the right. Check Beethoven op. 15 first movement, development section for example. B'thvn has such figures frequently.

I fully agree, especially as far as gestures are concerned. May be the sound of this video is not excellent sometimes, but may be you could not ask for more in 1983. Anyway who cares? I like Chaykovsky's Fifth very much, and each gesture by Mravinsky is a lesson in conducting technique, so elegant and effective. ?? ??????????? ??????!

Once (around 84-87) when Mravinsky fell sick in the hospital in Vienna, Karajan left his work and came all the way there just to visit him. Point being he was very well known and respected all around the globe, and this is not just some rumour I've heard - my father was working with Mravinsky in the Leningrad Philharmonic at the time and was actually there at the time.

This is without a doubt, the single most awesome scene I've ever seen in my life. I can see how David Lynch must have loved this movie and paid homages to it in several films. Yes she was dubbed, although Miss Moreua knows Italian and learned her role in that language, she was dubbed, but her lips are speaking in Italian. She had a French accent and that's why she was dubbed. She was fantastic! I love Moreau in any part, she is such an intelligent actress.

My favorite film by Antonioni, and the final scene Miss Moreau is fantastic. Antonioni wanted Silvana Mangano, so Miss Moreau was his second choice, and will all respects to Miss Mangano, I think that Miss Moreau was superb. Great film!

Exactly. I agree with you when you say there was never any intention to confuse or misinform. However, I don't think the purpose of the work was intended to be so malleable as you seem to believe. Beckett, of all playwrights, was very particular in how his works were to be preformed. That could only suggest that, to him, the "meaning" of the work was very specific too.

I'm very new to this stuff, but I would say that it is definitely what Beckett would have wanted for this peice. For those of you who are saying "he only wrote this to confuse" you are stupid. He wrote it so you would think. So you would create your own story and interpretation. This, to me, is the magic of absurdism. Pollini's recording is almost as embarassing at Misha Dichter's. I have no idea why it's so famous. Maybe because so few pianists have recorded it, but Pollini is brutal, has no sense of phrase or long line, frequently has terrible voicing due to the double notes in left hand in third movement, etc. His performance the several Sokolov (live!) bootlegs around aren't even on the same plane.
