If what you're saying is true, the orchestra should get faster and faster. We'll finish the song at double speed! Don't get me wrong - I love Astrud's singing on other songs, but here she's well ahead of the beat and it's a credit to the conductor that he doesn't panic and try to make them catch up with her. You're completely wrong about the relationship between soloist and orchestra. It's a mutual effort - in this recording, Astrud simply isn't listening to the orchestra and pushes ahead.

I love her voice as well, she had done a version of the song Berimbau but unfortunately it was removed from Youtube, I believe do to a copyright issue or something, Anyway I LOVED her version of Berimbau and hope some can post it again or let me know where I can get a version of it.

Part of her appeal, at least to English language speakers, is her very curious accent. I'm guessing it comes from her German speaking father combined with her Brazillian Portugues. It's very appealing to listen to. I wonder if her voice has the same effect on Brazillians?

let me say as a music lover for 48 years that this version of fly me to the moon is by far the greatest ever much much much better than sinatra's for here astrud has this amazing cuteness,this this charm, innocence of the 1960's she is heavenly here with her understated i'm just hitting the notes, with her breathy sighs and her incredible pitch and range this is a very incredible version. one of the nicest songs ever recorded,
