There's good music out there Onefodder! But you have to search for it. The MTV corporate sell outs & political posers take centerstage now. You want strawberry, vanilla or chocolate listen to radio. You want something original and different check college stations and smaller clubs or jazz clubs! Check Sarah Hickman or Cat Powers. There's some good smooth jazz talent out there too. I gave up, but when I see friends' bands there's more & more good young talent coming up.

i think victor wooten is better, and i dont know how u can make an argument against that. but its what jaco brought to the plate that makes him so good. Buddy rich wasnt the best drummer, he i just praised for his drumming because he pioneered big band/jazz drumming. if everyone can play play his stuff now, hes no longer the best. jaco was the best yes. but he is now an icon, and he will go down as the best because he showed the world a new meaning to the electric bass.

Groups like Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra re-invented Jazz. While Jaco was kicking back he and Miles opened up a portal to a strange new dimention. Unfortunatly the Anvan-Gard error created so much controversy and I beleive fusion is misinterpreted, misunderstood, and sent into another direction all together. Outside of Youtube the only place this kind of music can now be found is on a dusty thrift store shelf! If not for Miles Davis the foundation would not have been pathed.

I respectfully disagree. The reason I say Archie Shepp is more like John Coltrane, look at his body of work. He has been more experimental and explored musical boundaries. I love Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter at times has been too commercial for my taste. Archie's Denon and Steeple Chase recordings are classics. I actually would place Pharoah Sanders ahead of Joe or Wayne. Anyway there is nothing wrong in expressing a difference of opinion. Jazz lives.

don't get me wrong, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE Jaco Pastorius, but he surely wasn't the first musician to use harmonics... listen to some Django Reinhardt recordings for example. And i'm sure that Django Reinhardt wasn't the first one either... of course, finding the harmonics is more difficult if you have a (fretless) fretboard without any markings, but once your fingers knoow where to find the harmonics, it's just the same thing as on a fretted instrument...
