I saw Patti last weekend, and when they started this song I practically elevated out of my seat! I hadn't seen her do it since her first concerts in LA in the 70's. Wonderfully hypnotic and intense, and they did it remarkably close to the recorded version. I am still floating thinking of it.... :)

I totally agree. This always stood out for me among Patti's songs. It has an edge that cuts to the quick. No-one else has ever sung a song of this kind with that degree of intensity and passion. You can see how her own admiration of Callas and Jagger is reflected here perfectly. It is the greatest rock and roll song ever written, no doubt about that.

I think its such a tragedy for a young musician to die at such a early age. In Nico's case not only was she a beautiful woman who modeled, but had a voice that was very dark and beautiful at the same-time. After years of doing drugs her looks faded away, its sad to see her die from that.... Nico will always have her place in the music world...

Maybe this song was the homage to Leary you all seem to hear, but I detect a touch of irony: "Along the coast you'll hear them boast", "trips around the brain [aka a touristy trip around the bay]", etc. Above all, "Brings you back the same day" is definitely taking the piss. This is excellent! "Heroin" is one of my favorite songs. Each verse gets more intense and discordant while the song as a whole gets more intense and discordant. Hmm I wrote a favorable, enthusiastic comment and it didn't get posted. Whatever. thanks for a vid about the importance of the opportunists and price Jean payed for shoot from the hip paintings.
