My Song "Harry Public" (Unrelated to Neil Innes' Joe) Posted by: idontwantyourpity
Video duration: 264 seconds This is my song about a school shooter, sung from his perspective. I truly believe we won't solve this until we a) outlaw the handgun and the assualt rifle and b) try to understand the troubled souls who lose so much of their humanity they can do this sort of thing. This song tries to do the latter. The former is up to you. PS - All you NRA haters, make love not war! To All the Gun Lovers Who Reacted to My Video -- "WASHINGTON, June 13 ? The House voted to close a loophole in gun control laws that allowed the Virginia Tech gunman to buy firearms even though he had been committed to a mental hospital. The Senate is likely to follow suit, the first time since 1996 Congress has approved a measure strengthening gun control."

"The people who do these things are people who don't want contact. They wouldn't be capable of going out there and stabbing people to death. But there's such a disconnect when you're using a gun. You don't even feel like you're killing anybody. The fact that I was able to buy a rifle in 15 minutes, that's absurd. I was 18. I couldn't have rented a car to drive home from school, yet I could purchase a rifle." - Campus shooter Wayne Lo in NEWSWEEK, 5/2/2007

They are not bogus. Everything I state is a study I see. I do not make them up. This is all really pointless. There is no way we are going to change each other's minds. Lets just hope we are never in a situation where you need a firearms. Though my girlfriend and I will continue to carry, just in case.

I should have said homicide related gun deaths. Yes, 2/3 (or ~66%)is criminal on criminal. This was stated by the FBI and has been referenced by web groups, news organization, and crime study groups. The ATF says that young gang members under the age of 26 cause a disproportionate amount of gun crimes. I don't know where you live, but when there shootings around here it is usually gang on gang altercations.

Please stop putting bogus stats up, my man. It's too much work to keep checking them and they are wrong each time. I like you, you seem nice, please, just state your opinions, its cool, you're entitled to them, I appreciate your civility.

2/3 of gun deaths in the US are not criminals killing other criminals. 57 percent of gun deaths in the US are suicides. 4 percent are accidental shootings. That's already 61 percent. Since we know that within the other 39 percent a significant number are not criminal on criminal but crimes of passion, crimes against victims etc., your favorite stat is not a stat at all.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 19:04:07
Thought I was looking at the latest one. Did you know, according to the ATF, that 90% of all violent crime do not evolve a firearms at all? 83% of those that had guns did not use it or threaten. The fact that I like the best is that 2/3 of all people that are killed each year with guns are criminals being killed by other criminals. That is from the FBI. The media makes things look much worse then they are. I think we have more important things to focus on then guns.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 01 May 07, 18:54:29
Of course it does. Because it's the only CITY in the country that is measured against STATES in these frigging tables, and CITIES have higher crime rates than STATES. Across the board.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 01 May 07, 18:53:27
Actually, it doesn't. Texas has 529.7 violent crimes in 2005 (last year measured) per 100,000 according to the FBI site. California has 526.3. That's from the FBI site itself. Nice try though.

I just more information from FBI Uniform Crime Statistics about DC. Since DC's gun ban in 1976 the murder rate has risen 134% while the national average has dropped 2%. Only if we could have a ban like this everywhere, huh?
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 18:05:45
The District of Colombia also has an extremely high robbery and aggravated assault rates. And I mean EXTREMELY HIGH. Maryland is second with 230 per 100,000 and DC with 578.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 17:58:44
I was looking at statistics by Federal Bureau of Investigation and California ranked above Texas in violent crime (Crimes involving murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. It also said the District of Colombia ranks top in murder and manslaughter.

Do you not watch the news? A court did deem it unconstitutional and most likely it will end up at the supreme court level through repeal. A faults sense of security is not worth giving up freedom.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 01 May 07, 17:21:44
A better question is: Why do the gun partisans in the Congress refrain from attempting to repeal the "District of Columbia Personal Protection Act's" ban on handguns? Could it be it makes them feel safer? And: If banning handguns is unconstitutional, how come DC has done it and is doing it and isn't being stopped by the courts? Answer: It must be constitutional. So there goes your 2nd Amendment argument right out the window.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 01 May 07, 17:08:59
California's crime rate is 25th out of 50 states, which is squarely in the middle and far from the highest. The gun lovin' state of Texas has the 7th highest crime rate. You really do just make this stuff up, don't you? South Carolina is 3rd. Louisiana is 5th.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 04:48:06
California has a large amount of gun restriction as well and a very high crime rate to show for it. Statistically crime rate does drop when there are less gun laws or right to carry. Take Florida for instance. When they gave the people the right to carry the homicide rate fell from 36% above the national average to 4% below according to Florida Department of Justice.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 04:43:05
Those gun laws do not protect anyone. Criminals run rampant in DC. Could you tell me why they have such a high crime rate with so much gun restriction? Maryland is one of the most gun restricted states in the US. I have not looked into the other cites.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 01 May 07, 04:17:48
Presumably you're talking about Washington, DC -- ironic that the Feds have local gun control laws to protect them but the rest of us do not. Unfortunately, the actual statistical fact is that Baltimore, Detroit and Saint Louis have higher crime rates than DC, and they do not have "The District of Columbia Personal Protection Act" -- a ban on handguns -- to thank for it. Please, please look things up before you say them. Really, I think you're too bright to say things like this.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 01 May 07, 01:29:33
Seeing as how areas that have the tightest gun restriction end up being some of the most crime ridden parts of the country, I say good call. Less gun restriction= less crime. That is statistical fact.
By: idontwantyourpity. on 30 Apr 07, 22:14:45
Actually, the most interesting thing about this poll is that it shows no movement from ones that were done just a few days before the shooting -- still 60 percent in favor of gun control, just as they were before V-Tech. Our gun advocate in chief can be thanked for that in my view. His first speech about V-Tech was really about "No new gun laws are coming." Shameful.
By: gunut4FMJ. on 30 Apr 07, 19:30:38
Another problem that I have with this poll is that it was conducted after a widely publicized school shooting. This is more of an emotion pole. You say that the sampling is accurate and looking though the polls I found the exact kind of sample of 1,000 people that was taken last year and said 39% favor more gun control. According to this you are the minority.
