Yes a great piece indeed which Koss edited from the 30+ minute version (which is even better) and included on his LP much to the amazement of John Martyn. The full version can be heard on the Free box/booklet set. Ah man if only he couldv'e got the help needed to clean himself up and survive as so many lesser talents have done. When lucid Koss was one of the most original guitarists in the world. Unfortunately he was into the mandies and latterly other chemical substances in such a big way that this and the hangers on got the better of him and he paid the ultimate price. What a waste of talent. The poor guy was so out of it when I saw Free at Newcastle City Hall in 1973 that he couldn't even play and two bouncer-types pulled him off the stage. Brown Ale was blamed later but you knew it was something much stronger.

Listen to Rodgers here, even although this was a desperate time for Free, with that voice he could command an army. Oh man you are right about Simon. Superb drum sound on that album. But Mick was kickin' ass on the guitar too!!!!! "Bucket" was great on the first Robert Hart Bad Co album. Company of Strangers was so solid, but then the mysterious Stories Told and Untold....some good stuff on it, but it was like a contractual fulfillment sounding thing. Robert seemed to be doing his best Paul-style singing, but still, that line-up was pretty good.

Just tried to work out which songs they're playing and I think I'm right (sad, aren't I?) In the first part they're playing Ride on pony - you can tell by Kirke's drumming on the 'Because you see' bit. In the second part (when the film gets darker) I think Koss is doing the solo to Mr Big and it finishes with Kirke doing his famous end to this song.

Free on tour in Japan in 72. This has never been a favourite but to complete the Japan tour clips, thought I will load it up on the tube. Kossoff's obvious absence is noticed on this with Rogers lack of confidence engaging the chords while he sings.

Nice but I see that once again there's no lead guitar to speak of, with Rodgers few chords being no substitute. I assume that poor Koss was off his face again as at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1972/3, where they didn't even have the keys and continued as a trio with Rodgers on acoustic guitar after Koss was dragged off stage.
