Depends, I'm still an omnivore. Animals killed properly are usually better off than in the wild. I've watched a chicken get ripped apart with feathers flying like it was thrown in a woodchipper via lions. Our methods are less cruel than nature in some aspects. I raise turkeys and chickens. Mine live outside in the grass and sunshine. Just today, while I was harvesting lettuce in my garden, all my turkeys came over and sat next to me while I was picking lettuce. Yes, they are tasty, and our turkeys are made into food for us and our neighbors. But we don't like killing them, and we do it with care. I won't buy store meat anymore. Cutting trees for TP is another issue that is related to environmental problems. The issue in hand is about 'factor farming'. I recently talked to a local farm owner who stopped milking his cows 20 years ago! The industry farms had taken over. He lost his business and now farms healthy beef cows that live with their families. The least the world could do is let these animals live in natural habitats and allow the mothers to be with their babies. Today they don't even get much dignity.

I raise chickens and ducks we eat there eggs and yes we eat them.But my animals are not in cages.They have shelter to escape from bad weather and for safety,but this is totally unexceptable.I rescued 13 hens from a commerical farm that hid in my dog house for almost a week because they didnt know how to act around the other animals or even what to do out doors.They are still leary of my and i have had them almost 2 months.

Animals have the basic right to respect, freedom, and physical integrity. Morally, humans owe basic respect to all beings capable of suffering. I will admit I am not familiar with the Foie Gras industry. I have watched the video and it is a bit extreme. However, what needs to be communicated to you people is that these methods are NOT standard practice in conventional animal agriculture production. The farm sanctuary group is an animal rights group and their agenda is clearly to do away with animal agriculture of any form. They use theses examples as shock tactics to attract converts to their cause.

Goodbye Opie, you will be missed. Let us be thankful that this steer continued to live the rest of his life in peace and happiness at farm sanctuary. I remember Opie and Hamilton at Farm Sanctuary. I learned so much from knowing them and giving them TLC. Opie was love itself. Thank you for giving him a very good life. He was one of your Ambassadors and he taught so many that steers are not stupid and each "farmed animal" has an individual personality like any dog or cat. They have now found a safe haven at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen.

Dyeing chicks doesn't hurt them. The dyes used are normal everyday food dyes and are safe. Dyes are not injected into the actual chicken embryo! Dyes are injected into the white of the egg a few days before hatching (no extra pneumonia risk).

Yes, this happened when I was a child. Kids adopted them for Easter and they were dead within a week. Animals should never have such things done to them. It's important to teach kids that they are living, feeling creatures -- not toys to entertain kids for a week.

Most of these chicks are cornish cross (the white wings) and are breed for the chicken meat market. They are cheap and plentiful for the wholesaler who dips the birds in a non toxic dye. The birds molt their baby feathers and their adult feathers grow in their regular color (ie: the wings come in first, that's why you see the white wing color). Plenty of cute bunnies, kitties, and puppies subcomb to bad owner neglect too.

I remember getting four silkie chicks years ago that were bathed in food-dye. Nobody wanted them so I took them in. I was pissed that someone would do that to an animal for novelty purposes, but a warm bath washed away all of the color. One of the chickens Snowman, is still with me after 8 years!
