right but i didnt mean to say that we saved them if i did i and i know we came in we were affected but i think the fact that we came in was pretty gracious but i do appreciate your opinion

Desert Storm. The Operation after Desert Shield. The first Gulf War 90 - 91 if I am right. I don't know what an avionics specialist exactly does, but I have a lot of respect for everyone who served. Thank you for letting me know. It is very important to be educated. Here one says: "Education is the remedy for ignorance" I am very glad to hear that.

One never told me many details. But as I know he was in he french army for a short period, and was emprisonned when the Germans occupied France. After that he was sent to poland where he was forced to work. It was when the war was already over, when he came back, and never told much to my family. So they couldn't give many details either. I really regret I didn't know him.

And to be honest, I probably would have traveled to Britain and helped them fight if I were not already in the U.S. military. If I were in the U.S. military, I would push for an exchange spot. That kind of thing really rubs me the wrong way. It makes me want to fight the belligerents.

The main problem is that we showed up rather late for both wars, particularly in WW2 which was exponentially worse. We should have mobilized while the French army and British expeditionary forces were withdrawing from Dunkirk. Providing food and arms to Britain was nice but not really enough. Consider that while the Germans bombed the hell out of London, the U.S. still did not declare war. So it is rather callous to claim we saved them. We came only when we were forced by the axis.

actually this song wa by a Scottish Australian named Eric Bogle in 76 and you are correct today officially became about more than WWI in 54 (the war that would end wars) was the reason for this armistace but it didnt last long and many Americans died in WWI as well as in France or Germany. America came to help and some people arent appreciative? i dont understand it but just as well the Dropkick Murphys are proud as Americans and some serverd inthe US military to defend our country

were did ur father serve
By: seekortry. on 12 Nov 08, 00:57:08
JohnBello, yes, Desert Storm. I was an avionics specialist on the F-15E. I am more sensible because (1) I served with our allies and would never want to go to war without the British as company and (2) I have since completed quite a lot of education.

But you're right. It seems the majority just doesn't know it better. I always wonder if it's what people are taught at school in the United States.
By: JohnBello1947. on 11 Nov 08, 23:49:40
I'm sorry if I am a little bit sensible on that subject. But I was raised by my grandfather who was a WW1 veteran, and my father died because of WW2. In which war did you serve. The gulf war?
By: seekortry. on 11 Nov 08, 23:41:15
I did not make up any numbers. I simply provided a link to the actual data.
By: seekortry. on 11 Nov 08, 23:31:35
JohnBello, they make me angry as well. I am a veteran and know better. You have to remember there are so many people in the U.S., that most people don't need to serve in the military. They therefore have little understanding of the subject.
By: 1SlapHappy1. on 11 Nov 08, 22:48:10
Finally, even if I WAS making an attack (which I was -not-) it doesn't justify you making up numbers to attempt to prove a point. It's Remembrance day here in Canada, by the by, I was merely stating how the historical inaccurcy of this video gives the wrong message. Christ...
By: 1SlapHappy1. on 11 Nov 08, 22:44:45
...What the HELL are you talking about? Are you really that moronic? I never -ONCE- said anything angry, you people are killin' me with your bloody assumptions. Jeez... I'm WELL AWARE who DM is, I've seen them live MULTIPLE times, and I KNOW the origins of this song, I've performed it on several ocassions. I never said ANYTHING about DM being pro-American, you sound like a complete nutter with all the accusations you're throwing out. Yeesh.

I know this too well my son. But many Americans see this from a different point of view. Very often I heard: "AMERICAN weapons and AMERICAN soldiers had to come to Europe to win your wars for you" Parols like these make me very angry.
By: seekortry. on 11 Nov 08, 22:40:31
re: slaphappy (McBride), this cover of the song was performed by Dropkick Murphy -- an American band. The person who made the video was likely American. It is Veterans Day today in America. Today is not just about WW1. Lastly, Dropkick Murphy can hardly be considered pro-American government. You are just so partisan and cranky about Americans that you took this the wrong way. Remember that the American people share little in common with people like Bush.
By: 1SlapHappy1. on 11 Nov 08, 22:40:27
Delightful. Twist my words a little more. It's incredibly charming of you. I never said I was angry, I said it's slightly disrespectful to misrepresent those who fought and died for us. Not only to the WWI veterans, but the American soldiers shown in this video. So why don't you try another angle before jumping down my throat next time. Tosser.
By: seekortry. on 11 Nov 08, 22:35:18
wtf? We don't think we "saved" you. We came too late but brought enough to turn the tide. I personally think about all the Allied and Russian casualties together. This was a victory we achieved *together*. Try to remember that.
