Kind of expensive. I got the tank, new from a Welding supply for $185.00 and the regulator, which was actually much nicer than I needed was $175.00 (about his cost, it was a demo model). I could have gotten a pretty nice compressor for about half that but it would have topped out at about 150 psi. This thing will take me all the way to 600 psi if I can figure out how to use that much. It's also more portable and won't ever break down. Costs $18.00 to fill.

Pneumatics are much quieter than combustions (unless you make/buy a really fast valve like the "Mauler Valve", google it, they're really awsome) and if you get the barrel length right (longer is usually better) then the noise is even less. Plus, if it's too loud then you can just use less pressure. There are also some great designs for "silencers" that would help too. Check the SpudFiles website (the Forum has a ton of great info).

Tons. I spent the wekend with family (my brother, 1 sister, 2 inlaws and about 8 kids) and we shot all weekend. Probably 80 shots with the 2 liter gun. I made a small paintball rifle for my brother and we went through most of a box of 500 over that time too. I'm still working on that tank.

I drilled and tapped a 3/8" NPT hole (through double thick areas at the joins) and epoxied a 3/8" to 1/4" fitting into it. That way I can swap out gauges and fittings easily.

More to come soon (learning to edit with Adobe Premier!) And, yes, my pneumatics are VERY simple so far. Haven't even built a custom valve yet. I'll be making a monster cannon this summer with a 2" or maybe even a 3" barrel seal piston valve. (I need a lathe so bad.) It won't be a "Supah Valve" but I'll try to come close. After that I'll have to try a high pressure copper marble gun. Gotta learn to braise copper first. There will be more destruction. I promise!

The best Golf Ball pipe is something called SDR-21 1.5" Schedule 40 pvc. It's a thin walled pipe for water systems like pools and wells so you should be able to find it at a well/pool plumbing supply place. A 20' piece should only run about $15.00 or so. You should also pick up some 2.5" Sch 40 pipe for tennis balls there as well. Both are nearly a perfect fit! If you come across any 5/8" copper "M" class pipe, first, send me some (herd to find) and then make a paintball barrel for yourself.

unfortunatly I don't use combustion, and I don't have an surplus of old monitors sitting around my house. However if you were to use a longer and larger diameter spike you would most likely be able to exit the third. If you were to increase your power somehow I'd bet you would be able to get the fourth. P.S. make sure that when you sharpen your spike that you don't make the point to thin, because when it bends is when it slows down dramatically.

In all reality thats not that impressive, you have a projectile that is very small, meaning it contacts the target(s) with a small aera. Not much power needed to go throught 2 monitors and get stuck in a third.

That's a fuel metering setup bolted to that gun. It's MAPP gas (Basically Propane with a little Acetylene added). The whole trick is to measure and mix the fuel just right. With spray it's an art, with a fuel meter it's pure science.

great idea using those slugs. I've found if you have a 2 inch sch40 barrel you can get a rounded cap for 1.5" it fits perfect into the 2 inch. Anyway get one of those and stuff a golfball into the bottom of it. That make a very aerodynamic slug that goes very far I should have a vid of it up soon.

They're just steel washers on a bolt with a rubber washer at each end. When you tighten the bolt it expands the rubber a little. If you can find washers to fit the 1.5" barrel, and I bet you can, then the rest is easy.

If you use all pressure rated parts and glue them properly it's pretty safe. I was at 150 psi and the parts were rated to at least 300 psi (except the Valve itself, it was a little over it's recommended limit).

I've seen some ugly injuries when it fails so here's the rules I've been able to dig up: - Always use ALL pressure rated parts. They have more gluing surface for a stronger seal. - Always use a cleaner on every surface you will cement. - Always use the Heavy Duty PVC Cement. - Always give the PVC a minimum of 24 hours before drilling, taping, etc or before putting any pressure on it. So far I've been good up to 150 - 160 PSI.

I just built my first pneumatic i have a quick video up if you would like to see it. I am using 4 inch sch40 (rated at 260 PSI) pvc for my reservior with dome endcaps (dont know the rating) glued on either end and threaded for a shrader valve and the 1 inch outlet. I just used regular PVC cement for the reservoir and i am not sure how much preasure it will take. So far i have only hit 75psi. Just curious how you build your reservoirs to sustain such high preasures?

I totally dig Propane (and propane accessories) as evidenced by my MAPP gas cannon but I kept hearing how much more powerful the pneumatics were so I decided to give them a try. They are powerful and oddly enough a little less noisy (probably because I haven't made a really fast valve yet!) than the Combustions. Still not as portable though! Spice of life and all that...

I was surprised at how simple these Pneumaitcs were after building a few combustion guns. It's really pretty simple once you understand how these valves work. Check out the vid I did on modifying a sprinkler valve. It's surprisingly easy (I mean, *I* managed to do it. How hard could it be?)
