i learned this differently. Hugh did throw insults but it was at one soldier on patrol. A group of ppl gathered around and started throwing more insults at the lone soldier. Then they started stoning him. He called for helped and more soldiers came along with captain thomas. Thomas told the group to stand down but they didnt want to. Theu contiunted to stone and insult. Then someone fired a shot. No one knows who fired the shot. The soldiers then shot into the crowd. Thats how i learned it
